“The Cannes per diem rate has been in effect since Dec. 1, 2014. Previous summer allowances for the city have shot as high as $760 per day between November 2013 and October 2014, according to State Department archives.”
And why do government employees need to go to Cannes? The film festival? Anybody who suggests that government spend can be cutis an extremist.
If someone is fronting me $700 per diem, I can stay at a great hotel and have dinner at the best restaurants.
Hell, I’d find a reason to travel 3 or 4 times a years.
Most major cities and places like London and Tokyo are very expensive. Per diem does not cover the top hotels who rarely offer U.S. Government rates. You end up staying at 2d or 3d tier hotels that are often run down and not well located. I’m usually lucky to break even and some of the hotels are a legend for what you have to put up with, Seoul comes to mind.
The State Department often waives the per diem rates for their own employees. It’s good to be the king.
“and meals at facilities typically used by employees at that location, “
They serve meals at the brothels ?
The Brits have nothing on our Ruling Class Masters.
Even a lowly Government Bureaucrat experiences a lifestyle that my 45 Years of gainful Employment and sacrificing for the future will never afford me. If I had it to do over again, I would have opted out of the Corporate world and joined the Government Utopia movement.
And yew'd better not be one of them "Tea Party" types, neither.
Another argument for tax resistance.
Things like this are why politicians find it impossible to cut spending. They just can’t see how bad it looks, They’re morally blind.
