And why do government employees need to go to Cannes? The film festival? Anybody who suggests that government spend can be cutis an extremist.

Not sure they don't have some other reason to be there - went TDY a lot in the military and never got the exorbitant rates stated here - must be for the "non-military" types that ruin the perception for the rest. Occasional events in an area raised prices and it was a toss-up if we got full reimbursement in some cases.
