I hope everyone that signed that petition gets crabs.

(And while we're at it, the writers of the original 1977 stage musical that the movie is "based on" should apologize for making FDR into a heroic character when the original comics always despised him and promoted free market capitalism and anti-new deal policies!

Damn straight.

>> The original Annie strip doesn’t get the respect it deserves in pop culture or even the comics field. I’ve often wondered if Harold Gray’s conservative views are the reason. <<

I've argued that for a while. Gray was way ahead of his time when it came to putting politics in Sunday comic strips. He promoted conservativism LONG before Doonesbury did the same with liberalism in the 70s, but Doonesbury gets ALL the credit for being "groundbreaking" by injecting politics into the funny pages.

Unfortunately, the 70s Broadway "Annie" musical that was a slap to the face to Gray's views has now become the template for Little Orphan Annie, and every subsequent adaptation uses it as their starting point, RATHER than the original 1920s comic. It's become further and further removed from the original author's intent. At this rate, they'll be an Annie remake in 2040 where "Annie" is a gay Hispanic male.
