Pete Sessions Fires Back: I’m Not Pro-Amnesty, I’m Not a ‘Boehner Guy’

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart Texas, Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) pushed back against critics who view Congressional Republican leadership as weak on amnesty, and defended the planned homeland security appropriations bill that will come up for a vote in the new Congress as a strong tactic against President Obama’s unconstitutional executive amnesty orders.

Sessions spoke to Breitbart Texas for nearly an hour, and also shared four letters he wrote to constituents about the legislation earlier this month. He was clearly aware of the criticism leveled against him but was also adamant that the appropriations bill was not pro-amnesty and that it would effectively thwart Obama’s efforts to enact amnesty by executive order. Sessions also did not deny previous comments he has made that drew attacks as being pro-amnesty, but argued that the comments were taken out of context and that the focus right now needed to be on finding a way to pass the appropriations bill.

Chairman of the powerful Rules Committee, Sessions holds significant sway over legislation and has become a target for conservative activists who are frustrated with the Republican leadership under Speaker John Boehner. Sessions did not criticize Boehner directly during our interview, but they have butted heads on at least one key occasion during the past few years, regarding Sessions’ leadership of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

Senator Jeff Sessions is a stud duck and a credit to the great state of Alabama.

Cruz has a national profile.

Walter Jones and the House Republicans should give 20 or 30 votes for Jeff Sessions as speaker.

“Which one do we like?”

Folks who despise Sarah Palin will like Pete; folks who are true constitutional conservatives with discernment will absolutely love Jeff Sessions.

In 2015, he’ll spend as much time in Texas as Pat Roberts will spend in Iowa.

Well, that wouldn't surprise me, as Pat Roberts is a Senator from KANSAS.

A real conservative ran against Pete Sessions on March 4, 2014, but she was creamed. People in Irving did not want to rock the boat.

Need to brush up on your Spanish. At the rate that Obama and his Republican lackeys are going, it will be the official language and we’ll all have to be speaking it in a few years.

Somehow, I doubt that voting for House Speaker is a vote that is open to the constituents to see who voted how. I bet it is secret ballot.

Rand Paul sure did keep his cards tight to his vest giving me the impression I wanted of him - that he’s a conservative.

He’s showing his flaming cards now. He’s a LIEbertarian. I would never vote for him. One Demonrat party is enough.

I have watched Pete Sessions on C-SPAN for many hours in committee’s. I am impressed with his intelligence and knowledge of details on various issues. As chair of his committee, he handles the proceedings very well.

Another uniparty hack explaining how he was against amnesty before he was for it?

"...they have butted heads on at least one key occasion during the past few years..."

Pete Sessions is not a Boehner guy because he disagreed with Boehner on at least one key occasion in the past few years. Got that on a KEY occasion. He's only 99.7% in agreement with Boehner, he's his own man.

If that's the best defense you have, you suck.

Pete Sessions used to be a good congressman and exhibited conservative traits years ago.. He walked into an office where I worked twice meeting a friend. I spoke to him briefly and he spoke about his handicapped son and the church he went to. He seemed like a decent human being. I saw him later at a few events and I know he supported the LEO community. I think he has the capability of being a good guy if turned back onto the right path.
