Saudi Arabia has reportedly begun to allow Jews to work in the kingdom, according to a local newspaper.
On Tuesday, the Saudi daily Al-Watan reported that Saudi authorities are now allowing people of all faiths, including Jews, to work in the kingdom, saying this was proof of the country's openness to other religions and cultures.
The report was translated from Arabic by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).
The Saudi religious establishment is divided over the issue of foreign workers in the country, noted MEMRI, due to differing interpretations of a hadith of the Prophet Mohammed that states, "Remove the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula."
In this context it is also worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia is the only Gulf state that still bans the establishment of houses of worship for religions other than Islam, despite pressure from the Vatican on the matter.
Al-Watan stated that the Saudi Labor Ministry website, which deals with "importing [workers] for institutions and companies," lists a number of options for foreign workers' religions: Zoroastrianism, Communism, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and no religion.
The paper went on to say that "the labor authorities in the kingdom have permitted the import of people who practice Judaism for working on its soil" and called this "a move that emphasizes openness to all monotheistic religions and to people from other cultures."

The bikers will probably be far nicer.
Piranhas more predictable.
Maybe its a sign that some of the younger Royal Family is more open to working with anyone, even the Jews. There may be certain areas of expertise that is easiest to import straight from Israel. These particular areas of expertise will probably be taught to the Saudi workers over time. There is an impression that Israel has been quite adept at hacking the software of nuclear laboratories. That would be a handy skill set to possess in any area of the world.
Whenever they get PO’d, there will be an angry mob right at your door.
No doubt about it. I wish the venture luck and the participants safety.
If I’m chopping onions or eating raw Scottish bonnet peppers, I might shed a tear.
What’s their stand on alcohol and po...wonderful, magical animal meat?
Nothing new here. I HAPPENED to be sick as a dog while visiting Jeddah when we were over there working for ARAMCO (in the Eastern Province). That is why we were at a hospital.
According to the Saudis, Jews, American Jews at the time, are OKAY because they are "People of the Book," the Bible. The KSA does NOT hire Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Hindus, etc., but WILL hire "people of the Book."
Alcohol is 100% illegal, "sinful," therefore forbidden.
However, the "good ole boys" from Texas, Louisiana and California have stills and make "blue lightning." The local stores sell sugar in 50-pound bags, sell vats that hold 50 gallons of water and sell yeast in foot-high cans.
So the KSA knows that the Americans and Brits make booze...and they are left alone AS LONG as they don't sell the booze, called "siddiqi," (which means "my friend" in Arabic) to the Saudis.
When Americans leave the country and finally go home they sell their still to the next bootlegger. It all works.
Pork is sinful too and therefore FORBIDDEN. However....
Pork is available to non-Muslims on the ARAMCO camps as they have a PORK stores where we could buy pork products. Campbell's Pork and Beans were sold there.
We had to SIGN for the pork. Absurd, but we did enjoy having pork.
Drugs were DOUBLE forbidden and men would wind up in a Saudi prison while wives and children were sent back home. There WERE a few stupids who smuggled in drugs...mostly pot. Geez, were they ever taking big risks. Not worth it to ANYONE with brains.
Israelies working for Saudi Arabia is like German Jews working for the Nazis.
technically the term “people of the book” was extended to Zoroastrians some time after Mohammad’s death
Years ago, a TV station interviewed an old Saudi with a camel in the background. He said "Years ago, we had only sand. With oil, we've become rich, but tomorrow it will be sand again".
In the last few years, Israel and Turkey hosted a joint naval defense operation.
I once talked to a guy who worked building compounds for Western workers in Saudi in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Kitchen cabinets weren’t imported empty, and the bottles of booze slipped right past the properly compensated customs inspectors. And the houses had small rooms with tile floors and a drain, like a bathroom with no fixtures but a sink, for brewing or distilling. The Saudis seem to take the position that what happens on the walled compounds for Western workers stays there.

When I was working there, we referred to it as “flat nosed beef.”
Ah, if the locals would only understand (to paraphrase Ben Franklin) that beer and bacon are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
On a more serious note, the fact the article had to be translated from Arabic into English, and was not released directly in English, means the article was intended for Arab (Muslim) consumption. It is possible the article could have been a subtle attempt by someone to further undermine the royal family among the illiterate masses. The unwashed masses are frequently bombarded with speeches/sermons from the fundamentalist factions who highlight the corruption and defiling the holy land of the Arabian Peninsula by the Royals with the importation of foreign (non-Muslim) workers. The fundamentalist will seize on the bumper-sticker byline of “the King is bringing in Jews!” to further the perception of royal corruption.
Why would anyone, particularly Jews, want to work in the kingdom? Are people really that desparate for money?
It seems that way too.
People who engage in "stupid" though, better watch their backs for any enemies in their ranks as some people WILL snitch.
