It’s just a lawsuit to try to intimidate this guy and now both United and Orbitz are going to suffer The Streisand Effect.

This pops up every once in a while. You don’t have to be a “computer whiz” to spot the cheap layover flights and book one yourself. Technically it is illegal to not get on the second leg of the flight. Come and get me coppers!

Forgive me for the macabre thought but if you booked such a flight, got off after the first leg, then on the second leg, the plane "blew up" and went down with no survivors, that would be one hell of an easy way to "disappear" as your name would be on the manifest and you'd be presumed dead.

Maybe that's why airlines forbid the practice - they are concerned that somebody might actually try to pull something like that off on purpose.

Even more hacking “news”. Wait for it, the simpletons in control are after the freedom of the net. They can’t handle criticism from “the great unwashed” in any form whatsoever.

I grew up in Cincinnati, and until Delta merged with Northwest, Cincinnati was a major hub for Delta. Because it was a hub, the flights in and out were outrageously expensive. Flights in and out of hubs are expensive, because they already have those flights full with people making connections, so they don't really need your business.

There are a number of airports within about an hour to an hour and a half of Cincinnati - Dayton, Indianapolis, Columbus, Louisville, and Lexington. I almost never used Cincinnati as a destination. You can use round trip tickets, you just need to have someone drop you off at the airport you are flying out of.

Harrisburg to Beijing is a hell of a lot cheaper (was $900 cheaper RT) than Dulles to Beijing and the flight goes to Dulles after Harrisburg. You can’t just get on at Dulles to go to Beijing, that whole leg will be cancelled since you missed the outbound Harrisburg flight. But coming home, they can’t force you on the plane at Dulles to Harrisburg. Don’t check the bag in after customs and walk out of the airport. I’ve done it.

Hey United, how FAIR is it to overbook your stupid flights and then deny passengers seats they bought and paid for?

Calling his site “unfair competition” and accusing it of promoting “strictly prohibited” travel. As a long-time airline employee, let me the first to.. cough... bull...t cough... "Among the companies’ complaints is that the final destination bypass leaves the airlines unable to accurately count passengers, which could lead to departure delays and affect fuel load calculations" More bovine excrement... Just trying to protect revenue. The airlines have been trying to put a stop to this stuff for DECADES.... A good travel agent always knew the best way to double-ticket for the best fares. I first learned about it from my own Air Force ticket agent back in the early 80's. The computer age meant more people could do this on their own, which was why American shut down "EasySaabre" back in the day, when the world was still on 900 baud modems. Used to go Monterey-Indy, once a month or so, by buying two tickets, one MRY-to-KC via Denver, and another from KC-Indy, which was always at least 1/4 of the MRY-IND ticket, thanks to competition. When Southwest was still a "Discount" airline, you could get some GREAT cross-country deals by city-hopping through STL or DAL. The guy isn't doing anything wrong, United is just trying to protect it's yields. He should do a press release THANKING United for the high visibility, and free advertising!

Maybe I’m misunderstanding this.

You book a “one stop” flight, with the stopover as your true destination.

OK.

What happens to your checked luggage?

My Nephew does this all the time.

If he books a flight to Philadelphia, it costs one price...if he books a flight to Orlando, connecting through Philly, it’s way cheaper.

Not once has he gotten any grief from anyone over the practice. Heck, I’ve even looked into it, but it’s never worked out in my travels.

Maybe we should be investigating the airlines for their price fixing strategies. It makes no sense that this should happen.
