Chipotle employees greeted a group of officers at the restaurant with a hands up, dont shoot protest.
The New York police officers left without ordering.
Via Weasel Zippers:
A Chipotle representative responded to the incident.
They took appropriate action against the employee involved.
On Dec. 16, a group of eight NY police officers came to one our Brooklyn restaurants at about 6:15 PM, and before approaching the counter saw a single Chipotle employee raise her hands in what appears to have been a spontaneous, unplanned gesture of protest directed at the police. The group of officers then left without ordering food. In no way was this statement from our employee consistent with our culture and values. Quite the contrary. We work very hard to make all of our customers feel welcome in our restaurants.
Since being notified of this incident, we have conducted a review to determine what happened, including review of video footage from security cameras and interviews with our restaurant team. We have also taken appropriate actions with regard to the employee involved, and reiterated to our operations teams the importance of making all of our customers feel welcome in our restaurants. No exceptions. Finally, we have apologized to many of the people who have contacted us regarding this issue.

I dump on the cops, and I’m right when I do, but I think Chipotle is WRONG, here.
All this most recent activism is based on lies and distortions.
Found some local taquerias with cheaper and better food than Chipotle last year. I was never a fan, but my wife and daughter were. They have’ve been to a Chipotle this year, and I’m guessing this latest will not convince them to go back.
haveve => haven’t
A smart robber would quickly hit this store because the outgoing 911 call from the store to the cops will be ignored.
I think it turned out to be just one young black girl cashier who made that unfriendly, inappropriate gesture.
The District Manager has been apologizing, so they say. I have not heard of any disciplinary measures being put on the rude worker. She should at least be suspended w/o pay for a day, so she can sit at home and think of the difference between work behavior where you represent your company, and private behavior, were only you are represented. She needs to get her mind right.
It very well have been that she was joking. If I saw a cop and did that and smile the cop would probably smile, too.
In Austin when Bush won there were a bunch of state troopers standing around and asked “Which one of you goes and finds the women for the governor? Oh, wait. Wrong governor.” They all laughed.
I once had a boss who told me joking is something you do on your own time, not on my time.
I think I know of a good place to rob...
How is Chipotle wrong?
I do hope the Chipotle fired the person, though it does not sound like they did.
Remind me to join the cops and never darken their door again!
Sick bastards.
The officers should have responded with “Pants Up, Don’t Loot” before walking out
Good point —the employees at THIS branch of Chipotle are wrong.
That’s what I mean, sorry.
I dump on the cops, and Im right when I do, but I think Chipotle is WRONG, here.
...
The headline is misleading. According to the article it was one stupid employee, who’s probably been fired.
OK. I agree with you. Thought that was what you meant but wanted to be sure.
Agreed. We have a Chipotle nearby and we tried it once. Once. The food was high priced cafeteria style and of very poor quality. I couldn’t believe how bad it truly was. And I can’t believe it is still in business. There’s just no accounting for taste apparently. The place does emit a very tempting aroma, however.
what does “hands up, don’t shoot” have in common with, “I will huff, and I will puff, and I will blow your house down”?
both are fairy tales.
Smart boss. Probably couldn’t get away with it today. Something like that could be considered racist. And no /s.
