Most people know Dubai for its massive skyscrapers and luxurious hotels, but few know that the city was built by modern-day slaves.
For months, the BBC's Ben Anderson hung out around the glittering, insane towers springing up in Dubai trying to infiltrate the community of expatriate workers who are putting them up. What he found when he finally got in was that the jewel of the Arab world is almost entirely built upon imported slave labor...

Islam is, and always has been, the biggest slave-trader on the planet.
Back in the 60’s, even as a little hippie flower child, I knew this.
I could never understand why Black Americans would embrace Islam, even if their American version was a silly counterfeit.
How can people be so ignorant?

I’ve visited Dubai several times...the most recent visit having been last month.I don’t know about “slavery†but several things are easy to see.1) There’s construction *everywhere*.2) Those construction sites are manned almost entirely by small,very dark skinned men.If you look closely you understand that they’re from India,Pakistan and Bangladesh.3)These men work in the most appalling heat. 4) Early in the morning and later in the day you see these dark skinned men being transported to/from construction sites in the most God-awfully maintained buses you can imagine,...death traps on wheels.That may,or may not,be slavery but it sure doesn’t look like fun.

Why is that odd? Brilliance does not cotter to being slaves to the left.
I've been to Dubai many times and know exactly what you are talking about.
These workers are indentured servants. They sign contracts to come and work but before they earn a dime, they have to pay for their passage. And then they have to pay for their room and board. If they get injured or sick, they are sent back with nothing. At the end of the day they are practically slaves in all but the most literal definition.
And their lives are cheap. You probably noticed an absence of safety equipment being utilized by the Pakistanis working atop skyscrapers. This is because safety equipment is expensive whereas Pakistani laborers are not.
Very few of them ever earn enough money to have made their trips and their labor worthwhile but there are so many of them, they keep coming.
Yep same all over the gulf region....UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi, Bahrain etc ......and they each pay a “sponsor” or at least they did the few years I lived there......
Crazy place.....hotter than a snakes butt in a wagon rut......

In Arabic , the language their so called God does his thinking in, the word for “black” and “slave” is the same. Just to show the real God has a sense of humor the Arabic word for someone who submits to Allah “Muslim” sounds similar to “Mozlem” which means “evil and unjust”.
Blacks and Muslims have been holding their fellow man in slavery for over 1300 years, and still do today in 60% of the world, especially on the African Continent.
That IS funny!
Another one of these funny moments that include a pun in Arabic, was when General Allenby was able to liberate Jerusalem from the Ottoman Empire’s vastly superior forces without firing a shot (supposedly), because the very,very British name “Allenby” sounded a lot like the Arabic “Allah Bey” meaning “Prophet of God”.
that happened a little less than a hundred years ago, and was one of the catalysts for the entire middle east situation today.
