Air Asia Flight Bound for Singapore Lost Contact with Air Traffic: Report

An Air Asia plane travelling from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control, Indonesia's Metro TV reported on Sunday. - See more at:

...He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact, Reuters reported.

There are reportedly 162 people on board.

12.29pm: Channel News Asia is reporting that flight QZ 8501 pilot requested to increase altitude before contact was lost.

Amazingly, FNC just bumped in with this BN and said they’d (gasp!) pre-emt the Huckster with updates.

The mention of a microburst/downdraft, that makes real good sense if the plane was supposed to be at 23K but was recorded @ 750ft.
