A Muslim civil rights group has sued the government on behalf of a former Navy enlisted man from Northern California who says he was the target of ethnic slurs, was reassigned to a menial job, and was later denied re-enlistment after seeking permission to wear a beard for religious reasons.

I never DEFENDED the Muslims, I said a few kind and true words about Sikhs, and Ghurkas.
So everyone can have a beard now?
Just ignore him. I have seen him do this crap before..
You must have a cattle prod up yer wazoo.
Hey “Ansell”, and the name seems appropriate, what do ya say we just never speak together again?
I find you highly opinionated and annoying, you find me opinionated and annoying.
Why wreck the furniture and scare the kids?
It’s to much fun!
“I would have a Sikh in combat with me any day.”
Or a Gurkha.
yeah, I know, but with him its like beating up the handicapped..
Amen
Oh you mean the old OBA chest grenades? LOL. Yea same here. I had mine all but a total of nine months while on the ship. Those nine months I didn't was when I was on the Fire Department. First time I was sent there. Second time I asked to be sent while we were in overhaul. It was made a permanent division that departments sent persons T.A.D. too. The rest of the time I had one and so did about 50% of ships company officers. Also a beardless Chief was rare indeed LOL.
Beards had practical advantages on ship especially with the long at sea work hours and watches which on some days were 20 hours. It gave you an extra few minutes sleep in the morning you weren't spending shaving.
I didn’t know you were a bubblehead .....:o)
AWESOME !!!
They run people through the gas chamber twice a year now?
“a beardless Chief was rare indeed”
Quite right.
At least you admit you troll and bait.
But personally I don’t side with the Muslims and their beards as you do, I side with Reagan on the question.
Bubbleheads hate me too. ☺
I don’t recognize your name, but if you support the Muslims on their beard issue, why you don’t you just address that rather than jump onto a thread solely as a stalker?
At least hey used to before I retired in1992.
He never defended militant muslims..
I didn't see the gas chamber even in Basic. The winter of 76-77 up at Great Lakes was so cold Gas Mask class wasn't held. I never saw it on the ship. We were sent several times {about a half dozen or more times in my case} to Fire Fighting Classes just outside the base in Norfolk.
They had us put out a fire and get out without an OBA for oxygen. Any Damage Control qualified sailor should be able to do as much. You wrapped your lips around the working fire hose for oxygen. It was a back up that worked especially if you were in a fire and the OBA failed which the older models of the 1970's were notorious for doing.
Sure he is supporting militant Muslims, activists in our military, political and religious militancy, not terrorism.
The kind of militancy we have seen a lot of in the military from various complaint groups over the last 50 years.
This is what this thread is about, and his posting and arguing is in support of their beards.

I side with Reagan on the issue.
And just how old were you when Navy guys with beards were in harm’s way out East in Indo China? I did “stuff” out there (Laos) with a Sikh. One of the best men I ever knew; he went on to become a member of the RCMP and retired, covered with honors, about 17 years ago. He had a beard and a turban. neither stood in the way of what he or we had to do.
