The SA-18 has a ceiling of 11,000 ft. Perhaps (1) he was flying low, (2) the rebels found a way to extend the range or (3) the ceiling is way higher than anyone thought, which is weird, given that man portable SAM’s are too light to carry much fuel.

In the posted site, the Worthy Oriental Gentlemen of ISIS were carrying clean, very new-looking AKs and were in complete (and clean)uniforms and good web gear. Source? Iraqi? Paid for by us?
The launcher looked like Russki hardware, or a CHICOM version of it. Hope the F16 driver makes it out of there alive.
