He should be called the White-Guilt Bond.

I probably don't even have to explain this.
RIP 007.

To me, the height of hypocrisy and PC was making the villains of “Sum of All Fears” old white racists instead of the rabid Muslim terrorists as in Clancy’s book.
Further, putting that fancy pants putz poofter Afyak (what I think of when I hear Affleck) as Jack Ryan was patently absurd.

They’d have to change him from 007 to 009 and a half :-) ( an old Eddie Murphy joke )

Perhaps Woody Harrelson as SuperFly!

Ian Fleming said that he pictured Bond as looking like Hoagy Carmichael, an American musician of Scottish ancestry (mother's maiden name was Robison, a Scottish name as is Carmichael). Sean Connery (of partial Irish ancestry) came closer to Carmichael's appearance than any of the subsequent Bonds. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan were woefully miscast in the role. Daniel Craig, though relatively short (5' 10") and blond, conveys the character well.
No black man, or anyone who is not British by ancestry ahd birth for that matter, can rightly play the James Bond role.

To me, this is all more like contrived concoctions of appeasement to diversity. One would think the merits of a black actor could stand on itself. However, this doesn’t seem to be the prevalent case. Instead, those in power have to rely on tried-and-true franchises upon which to foist these offerings on the altar of diversity so they can still make a profit in the endeavor.

Is he going to be homosexual too?
Heck, go all the way and make him a female to male transgendered pacifist.

Casting choices like this are usually very deliberate to get people talking about the movie. A character’s race is sometimes essential, but not always so. Elba has good screen presence, he will be fine if this is a done deal.

I guess but the very first incarnation was Barry Nelson who was American. He worked for the Combined Intelligence Agency which I guess was supposed to be the CIA. He was called Card Sense Jimmy Bond. :) It was a very cheap production done on live tv. It had 2 sets and was by limitation somewhat theatrical. From 1954 which was a year after the first novel was published. It is a real curio and you can watch it on youtube.

Maybe they can make him black, female, homosexual, midget in a wheelchair and blind with no guns or cars. That should do it.
