For the past six years, I have been a passionate, active black member of the Tea Party. Unlike the vast majority of black Americans, I did not fall for the radical left's Trojan Horse in the form of a shiny new smooth-talkin' black man back in 2008. When presidential candidate Obama told Joe the Plumber that he planned to spread the wealth around, I knew he was nothing more than another socialist/progressive liberal who hated America as founded.

What struck me is how willfully ignorant Dad remained for so long. A preacher of the Gospel for 50 years, and still had no clue the mainstream media was biased and lying - still had no clue what Al Sharpton’s real agenda is.

The division tactic by the left works here also. Notice the comments regarding race. We are beginning to believe the lies also and judge first by race and then by behavior. But it would be nice to see more behavior I agree with. We are not going to see the many people who agree with us from the media and very few here because of the lies they hear from the media.
Do how do we link with like minded people. Even in church we are not like minded. Conservative on this site means what ever one ones it to mean.

My father and Lloyd’s father were friends. My dad’s conbgregation was evenly racially divided. His was the first mixed race church in Baltimore. Dad was a conservative who believed in the civil rights movement. He died in 1974, before the takeover of the movement by communists.
Some refuse to see the light and give up the race card it’s worked for them so long it’s a way of life.
I wish some here on FR would look at people like Lloyd, Dr. Sowell and Allen West and knock off some of the sweeping generalized rhetoric against black people.
There is a difference between criticizing black culture, 3rd world tribal culture, liberalism, the plantation mentality, race baiters, liberation theology, black racism, etc... and criticizing black people.
Some of the comments I see here on a daily basis would be very alienating to a black conservative.
I think we should keep that in mind.

Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble but the commies had the civil rights movement in their pocket from the get-go, definitely well before 1974. There’s plenty of info on the Web about this, likely including some of the material gathered by the FBI in the 50s and 60s on MLK Jr. and others at the direction of J. Edgar Hoover.
Yes, it is conservative to be in favor of the civil rights of all people that are guaranteed in the Constitution and law. It is not conservative to accept all within the movement as being as pure as the driven snow because of their quest. The Commies realized the ability to manipulate the internal politics of the US would gain them an advantage. This was done with the civil rights movement and the anti-war movement. The Commies grabbed for any lever they could to overcome the otherwise overwhelming power of free markets and free people when compared to a command economy and enslaved people.
I commend your father for his unbiased approach to faith and ministry. He likely was not aware of the commie manipulation of the movement as it was occurring. Historical reflection takes nothing away from your father’s honest efforts.
He was raised with that idea and most of them were as well, they have passed it down.
