Huge news just broke which is a major defeat for the political correctness crowd. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rejected a petition which was seeking to stop the Washington Redskins from using their team name or face major fines. The 1st Amendment won!
Sen. Harry Reid and 50 Senate Democrats have worked on a major campaign to stop the Redskins, even though their fans love the name and a vast majority of Native Americans (90%) dont find the name to be offensive. This is awesome:
The FCC on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by a professor claiming the Washington Redskins name is indecent.
George Washington University Professor John Banzhaf asked the FCC to deny renewal of the broadcast license for a radio station co-owned by Washington team owner Daniel Snyder, because of the repeated use of the word Redskins. Attorneys for Snyder have said banning broadcasters use of the word would violate free speech and property rights.
The status of similar petitions filed by three Native Americans against TV stations are still active.
The FCC determined that the law defines profanity as sexual or excretory in nature, so it cannot find the word Redskins profane.
We find that there have been no serious violations of the [Communications] Act or the rules involving the station or any other violations that, taken together, would constitute a pattern of abuse, wrote Peter H. Doyle, chief of the Media Bureaus audio division.
Banzhaf said he will not stop his effort to get the name banned from the airwaves.
Ive got quite a number of options were still looking at, he said in an interview. Ive got to sit down with some of my colleagues and see where we go from here. Its a disappointment, but its certainly not the end of the line.

Thank-you and Merry Christmas!
Great news for CHRISTmas!! Woo hoo!!!
Shove your phony outrage up your butt.
I happen to know that the other 10% would join the 90% of the rest of us for the right pay-off.
The bar is encouraging Redskins fans to wear black attire to Saturdays event. Every Eagles touchdown will yield free Im-peach Snyder shots, which will be Fuzzy Navels. If the Eagles win, the bar wont show the Redskins-Cowboys finale, out of respect for the fallen. Groth said he doesnt think that would impact business much, because hardly any Redskins fans are showing up anyhow.
But the Redskins confounded everyone and bea the Eagles!
Good decision, good name, Merry Christmas!
What really bugs me is that all these indian names came around when the government was trying to preserve their heritage.
I'm pretty sure it was a Roosevelt who made this happen...and IIRC...he added "They would have killed themselves off if it wasn't for the white man."
AWESOME? Seriously?
God is awesome. This is simply good news.
True, but what irks me is that these liberals don’t give up - notice they said they had other options, and you can bet your life they will pursue them. I wish the RINOs would take notes and follow suit - to stop surrendering before a battle even begins. If these RINOs want to be more like DEMONcrats, then this is one example they should pursue.
I thought that we were letting the NORKs decide these matters for us now.
If you like your mascot, you get to keep your mascot. Period.
I’m a born-again Christian and God is NUMBER ONE in my life, but, come on dude; lighten up.
Shove your phony outrage up your butt

Are you addressing that to me?
The fact that a common-sense, no-brainer decision is heralded as, “amazing news,” really shows how far we’ve descended as a society.

So true. So sad, but, so very true.
The FCC has no authority in the matter. It doesn’t have the right to pronounce on whether a name is valid or not.
They failed this one, but they will keep trying to “prove” that all Whites are evil racists.
