The police union for the New York Police department issued the following statement earlier today.
FROM NYC PBA: Starting IMMEDIATELY- At least two units are to respond to EVERY call, no matter the condition or severity, no matter what type of job is pending, or what the opinion of the patrol supervisor happens to be. IN ADDITION: Absolutely NO enforcement action in the form of arrests and or summonses is to be taken unless absolutely necessary and an individual MUST be placed under arrest. These are precautions that were taken in the 1970’s when Police Officers were ambushed and executed on a regular basis. The mayors hands are literally dripping with our blood because of his words actions and policies and we have, for the first time in a number of years, become a “wartime” police department. We will act accordingly. FORWARD MESSAGE IN ITS ENTIRETY TO ANY AND ALL MOS

A friend that was in the “Fort Apache” area in the 1990s was shocked at how little it had changed in the ensuing twenty years.
DeBlasio’s Republican opponent tried to draw votes with fear tactics reminiscing about the David Dinkins/Crown Heights Riot days; it failed because so many of NYC’s voters today weren’t even in NYC back then. It really has become a very foreign city, and without the sanctuary offered would have whole areas completely deserted.
You can’t, but you can at least admit you were wrong. Stepping down would be a good start.

Are members of the NYPD responsible for the NY Mayor’s security coverage? If so, then it seems he picked the wrong people to pi$$ off.

every arrest has a potential of conflict and lethal force. Some folks go crazy when placed under arrest.
From talking to guys in the NYPD, Bed-Stuy is the worst part of town. This is really bad all the way around. The denizens of that hood will be emboldened. The cops will be on a shoot first mentality. All will likely explode.
Two benefits. First, it decreases the number of confrontations which might distract the cop from watching his back. Second, and more importantly, it’s going to kick the city in the pocketbook. No easy pay rather than show up tickets, and no easy plea to a fine misdemeanors. (A third benefit - the ticket fixing lawyers and the judges they deal with will feel a pinch and start pushing the politicians).
They were already emboldened; that is why Michael Brown though a cop was too much of a p%#&y to shoot him (after trying to take his gun) and why Eric Garner resisted arrest.
Cops will not be shooting at all; they just won’t be there.
That would be the first step in a long and painful healing process.
The actions and inactions by Mr. Obama, Mr. Holder and ‘Reverend’ Sharpton should also be examined.
My condolences to the families and friends of the murdered Officers.

Always, when a feckless idiot is elected, there is the question of how long things can muddle along despite him, or how soon they’ll come to a head.
We muddled along with Carter for four years, but the damage was repairable. Obama is a two term president, and far more set against the interests of the country, but we are still here.. for now. De Blasio managed to put the NYC PD on war footing in what... a little over a year?
This is how they were in the late 80’s early 90’s.
Wouldn’t show up when called AT ALL most of the time.
There had to be somebody dead or bleeding from a stabbing or gunshot.
Property crimes where not responded to, crackheads would case parked cars in broad daylight.
