PepsiCo wants in. So do Caterpillar and Marriott International.
Within hours of President Obamas historic move to restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba, companies in the United States were already developing strategies to introduce their products and services to a market they have not been in for the better part of 50 years if ever.
Cuba is a potential market for John Deere products and services, Ken Golden, a spokesman for Deere & Company, a leading maker of farm and construction equipment based in Illinois, said by email.
But while there may be robust opportunities for some companies, especially those selling products or goods that could be viewed as enhancing Cubas own domestic production or helping to develop its underused resources, other companies could get the cold shoulder.
For a company like McDonalds, the Cuban government is going to ask, How does McDonalds coming in and selling hamburgers help the economy of Cuba? said Kirby Jones, founder of Alamar Associates, which has advised companies on doing business in Cuba since 1974. Its just not going to be like other regions where you see a McDonalds on every corner.

This is laughable.
What will Cuba use for currency ?
That might be the only ‘good’ that comes out of this. The Castro’s will not be able to hide what they have done to their people anymore.
Thee is another “Company” clamoring to do business in Cuba. It is called the Mob and it wants to control Prostitution, Gambling and Resort Hotels. As soon as they can begin to bribe Public Officials they will be well on their way to controlling Cuba’s future “tourist” indistry.
The Corleone Family will finally get their Havana casino, which will be partly bankrolled by the Chamber of Commerce.
They pay in Cigars.
The US will loan Cuba the money to buy US equipment. When Cuba is unable to repay the loan, the US government will forgive it. (US taxpayers will pay US manufacturers for equipment that they give to Cuba).
they better not build on any stolen property.
“historic move to restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba”
There’s no ‘move’, he’s just started talks.
There’s little change he can make without congress’s agreement.
Pretending he has done something just puts pressure on congress. There’s no lie the NYTimes won’t push to pay for the welfare state.
I never even thought of that. I am sure the mob wants all their stuff back that was seized by the Castro Bros. Inc.
The Mob is licking their chops at the opportunities that are available to them. Mark my word under the veil of legitimacy, organized crime will be Cubas biggest industry in a few years.
It isn't "the mob" any more in the US. It will be all of the gaming companies that have saturated the US market with casinos, way past it being profitable to build more.
And the cruise ships? Cuba will easily become the most popular destination.
Another possibility I've always semi-joked about. Imagine a major league baseball team there with one and two day vacation packages to see major league baseball in Cuba.
I also believe that forces we don't understand have given up on a majority of the black population. Protesting for "justice" instead of the proper protest for jobs invader hispanics are filling does show that a lot of that population is clueless and leaderless. Well educated Cubans not yet ruined by an entitilement mentality will be a great source of inexpensive labor.
It's not that Cuba will be in the US sphere again that bothers me. It's that there's been no process, which means a lot could go wrong.
Watch for an influx of 50’s classic cars coming for sale soon on ebay.:)
They wont be regulated in Cuba like the Casinos are in the U.S. The Mob will bribe public officials and control Prostitution, Booze, Gambling and Hotel Tourism all with cheap labor and will use “Phoney Front Corporations” to mask their ownership.
Of course! Why didn't I think of that?!
The ones out of Cuba will need a heap of restoring, having been run to death for 60 years.
If I were to sell anything in Cuba I would require a cash payment in dollars, gold or silver.
Or possibly trade for cigars.
Ding, Ding, Ding... give the man a Cuban cigar, we have a winner. {The taxpayers will pay for the cigar.}
Cuba doesn’t have the infrastructure for robust trade and they can only pay back in commodities such as tobacco and sugar cane.
I would think the process will involve the Overseas Private Investment Corp.
Companies take out OPIC insurance that becomes collateral for loans from American Banks. OPIC pays the banks in the event that the transaction goes bad and payment is not received from the foreign customer.
