Shes a mom on a mission. A single mother-of-two from the Los Angeles neighborhood of South Central recently went on strike against her employer McDonalds. Maribel makes $9.35 per hour working as a server but thats not enough to support her family (she shares a home with 10 other people including her children, grandmother, and niece). I need fifteen to buy my babies diapers, their wipies, their clothes, she explains. Its hard with nine dollars per hour you cant do that. Its really hard to pay rent.
On December 4, Maribel, along with a large group seeking $15 per hour and union rights for fast food workers, picketed a McDonalds location in downtown Los Angeles. Its really exciting going inside my own store, she says before leading a group of chanting protesters inside. Maribel was not alone in her efforts that day, fast food workers walked off the job in more then 150 cities across the country.

It’s curious that a business hires a person without knowing if they even have a ‘family’ and if they do or if they expand their family once hired - the business needs to pay up to support all those involved within the family unit.
Sounds socialist.
That as one of my most important lessons from my parents. Usually when I got arrogant or ignorant as a teenager. “you gotta earn it, the word doesn’t owe you a damn thing” was heard more than a few times growing up.

I would say that counting change, it is well into 7digits.
If no one else will hire you for more money you can figure that you are already being paid all your labor contribution and skills are worth.
Either upgrade your skills or get a second job.
Or two or three.
I think she needs to demand $480.77 per hour. That way she will make, roughly, $1,000,000 per year before taxes. Of course, with Barry’s tutalage, she will only be able to work part time. So, she will need to work, at least, a couple of years, maybe up to four, to get the whole million, but what’s a month or two among friends?
And unlike you, it knows how to "hablo ingles."
McDonald’s is already screwed (at the lower wage levels); I’ve noticed a lot less customers there over the past couple of years, and the stock price seems to bear this out. The food is too expensive, and people that loved it as teens can barely stomach it 20 years later. Today’s teens are more likely to eat tacos than Big Macs...
has she been fired yet?
Some perhaps but I worked under U.A.W. contracts for 30+ years and no contract had anything whatsoever tied to the minimum wage.
If McDonalds were to offer decent tacos, I'd probably buy them....and they'd probably double their business.
McD’s food is too expensive. They have a discount menu for $1.19 including a double burger. They have a sausage and egg burrito at breakfast for just over a buck.
If you want a big mac combo it can be expensive, but that’s just part of the menu.
That, and the food.
Chick-fil-A. The employee turnover is a fraction of other fast food chains.
Well boo feakin hoo. What does she want? $30 an hour to clean tables and take orders? Does she think people are going to pay $10 for a hamburger to support her sorry, lazy ass? Get better skills. Use this as an entry level job and move up through hard work and initiative.
“Elise Solé you ignorant slut.” as Dan would say back in the day.
She writes what Yahoo wants her to and Yahoo’s advertisers love stupid women.
What % are illegals? What do you figure that their combined welfare WIC entitlements etc. comes out to way more than salaries of regular American families who barely scrape by because these "I deserve more" entitlement leeches suck citizens' paychecks dry?
The Yahoo comments are less charitable than the ones on FR.
Oh, and the video is disgusting. That's what democracy looks like all right... mob rule and threats.
That's a BIG one.
And, she should have thought of her plight before she took her panties off.
Now she wants to make it McDonalds, and OUR problem.
Society would be better off by taking her kids from her and putting them in a orphanage...and so would the kids.
If she has additional children that she cannot afford her wages should be increased to 20.65?
OMG. She has time to spread her legs? I hear you. You get to the point of what’s up with her being a single mom, and where is the dad or dads of her children?
There is poverty measured in dollars and cents, and then there is a poverty of values and behavior too. We as a culture seem incapable of discussing the poverty of values which so many people are afflicted with. Violates political correctness to talk about certain subjects.
