Job cuts at the New York Times will exceed the stated goal of 100 newsroom positions eliminated, the Newspaper Guild of New York said yesterday in a memo to union members.
According to the guild, the Times said yesterday it will lay off 21 union-represented employees starting as early as today, after 57 guild members and roughly 30 non-guild members accepted buyout applications. That amounts to more than the 100 newsroom positions the newspaper said it needed to eliminate as a cost-cutting measure on Oct. 1.

Merry Christmas, Slimes staff!
Perhaps Al Sharpton could VOLUNTEER to help out over there at The Times?
Wouldn’t expect to see them behind the counter. Rather would likely see them outside “striking” for an undeserved $15/hour!
It's impossible to tell precisely given the information they release. The Times will still have an editorial headcount of about 1,200 ... but that term covers a lot of territory ... everything from newsers to editors to proofreaders. There is no way to know how many of the ones left actually create new product for sale.
We do know that this is the fourth mass reduction in the past six years and that the Times has lost a lot more employees through termination, retirement, resignation, illness and death over the same period.
In short, the Times is rapidly liquidating their only real asset ... people who are laid off frequently leave the industry ... layoffs are endemic industry wide ... and many within the MSM get a majority of their subject ideas and content from the Times.
These are not happy times for the presstitutes.
They’ll figure it out someday: Nobody is going to PAY for propaganda. They’ll buy news, but not propaganda.
As for bullsquat, apparently, people WILL buy the genuine article. There’s a thread on today about that. 30,000,000 bought a box of bullsquat as a gag gift.
Reminds me of the heady days of the Pet Rock.
I almost wish this sort of thing would happen to the editorial staff at the Minneapolis StarTribune (aka The Red Star).
But you know what? The editorial staff are usually the untouchable ones. They’re the last, if it all, to go.
Interesting. thanks
Every daily newspaper will be out of business in a few years.
What are you so damn happy about. It looks that I could actually LOSE my beloved “tag line.”
Then whatever would I do??
And the world rejoices ...
All the Propaganda Thats Fit to Print ...
That's not their tag line anymore. To see the new one, you can click the newser directly above.
If they end up down to ONE PAID POSITION, that last person will agitate for American communism until the electricity is finally cut in the building.
Give it time. That garbage-pail liner won’t last forever either.
Good. I’d like to see the nyt go out of business.
Prominent recently was the hiring of former NPR executive Kinsey Wilson as editor for innovation and strategy; Michelle Dozois as growth strategy editor; and Justin Bank from The Washington Post as deputy editor for audience development, to name a few. Other hires are expected soon, including possibly Alex Burns of POLITICO, according to a report from the Huffington Post.
These are senior hires with hefty salaries, and one wonders (well, I would if I were one of the ones laid off) if perhaps the money earmarked for those salaries might have saved a few jobs. What I'm seeing here is a retrenchment of the establishment Left, perhaps in preparation for the anticipated 2016 election. Pulling people in from Politico and NPR is not exactly a move toward editorial diversity.
And so the political class, including the unions, protects their own at the expense of the folks in the trenches. This isn't new.
Thank you well least Gloria Swanson character didn’t get it you are so right about NY Liars
Somebody need Bill Holden drown NY Liars
And the last story they write as they lock the doors will blame the Republicans.

great news for the day
One day these leftist rags will start shutting down
It will be gorious
“Job cuts at the New York Times will exceed the stated goal of 100 newsroom positions eliminated”
Fortunately for the NYT, the quality of their output won’t be affected as they just need a handful of fiction writers and propagandists to write their “news” stories anyway.
“One day these leftist rags will start shutting down”
I just received my weekly “We want you back” plea from Time magazine.
I gave up my subscription about TWENTY years ago.
They must be desperate.
