New plans unveiled Friday could allow French doctors to put terminally ill patients into a deep sleep until they die.
The French parliament will debate the issue in a new draft law, according to The Telegraph.
So far only Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland explicitly permit euthanasia or assisted suicide.
A 2005 French law already allows passive euthanasia, where a person causes death by withholding or withdrawing treatment that is necessary to maintain life, but the new proposal takes the idea further.
The proposals by two MPs one from the ruling Socialists, the other from the opposition UMP allow doctors to combine passive euthanasia with deep and continuous sedation for terminally ill patients who are conscious and whose treatment is not working or for those who decide to stop taking medication, The Telegraph reported Friday.
But patients who are incapable of making the decision in certain circumstances could also be put under, The Telegraph said.

Our government would never put us into a deep sleep for years. They need the optimum amount of tax revenue they can extract from each citizen unit before they are executed by death panels and used for that new meat substitute they’ve all been talking about.,./s
jsanders . . .
that is dark, very dark indeed.
it is also quite literally true.
IMO the sarcasm tag was not needed except for the meat substitute part. LOL
Merry Christmas!

Her doctor prescribed her sedatives. He was very careful in choosing his words on dosage. He explained to my mom that with a compromised pulmonary system that a few too many of the sedatives would halt her breathing. He made sure she understood that.
When we establish lasting trust with those we choose to make our way through life with, most laws, policies, and mandates are not needed.
Well said.
But patients who are incapable of making the decision to vote right could also be put under, The Telegraph said.
don’t piss off your doctor or they may put you in to a permanent sleep
Much to my dismay I now find myself in this situation... but I will “not go gentle into that good night”.
It was his choice and for him it was the right thing to do.
I certainly support his decision.
I guess I’m disagreeing with most of you here. This is an alternative to euthanasia, not euthanasia. If you have ever seen the last days of a cancer patient...days filled with agony and morphine haze as the inevitable draws near...you wonder if there could be an alternative to that suffering. The alternatives have been euthanasia or suicide. Neither choice works for me. But a deep and peaceful sleep until that final moment is a new choice. If you vitals suddenly jump back to normal, the you wake up to live your life...but when the vitals continue to plunge, you sleep peacefully through the agony...and your loved ones at the bedside are also free of your agony...and their last moments with you are far more pleasant and reflective with a choice of screams or sound sleep...give me sleep.
I am sorry for your loss.
They’re already doing it here.
My mother was sent to the E.R. by her Dr. for “flu symptoms” back in Feb. They did their ‘stuff’ - hooked her up to I.V’s and monitors, ran tests for the usual stuff that she obviously didn’t have. (ran up the bill quite nicely)
After a week, they had her on a respirator so she was no longer eating food. She got weaker and weaker; legs bloated up from the liquid ‘drip’ so that after her 3 weeks in there, she could no longer eat, nor walk.
She got out for 3 weeks and had to go through therapy to be able to eat and walk again (more expense). The final day of therapy, the nurse called in as Mom had a minor spell of shortness of breath. (I was there - she’d had her walking up and down stairs, duhhh) Whoever she called insisted Mom be sent right back to the E.R. for a check.
Same thing - another week of tests and respirators and then she was dead. She was 79 years old.
I could tell all along that the staff treated her by their ‘guidelines’, but didn’t like being ‘bothered’ and having their time wasted on an ‘old’ person.
By the way, until she went in, she was strong as a bull and had snow-blowed her own driveway all winter.
If you’re past a certain age now, they’ll do what the ‘rules’ say, but they will help you over the edge of the cliff. Welcome to the new Amerika, folks.
Now the French govt wants to speed that up by knocking off the old people faster.

Convenient pension cancellation?
Tell a Leftist his population is collapsing and his reaction is...”No big deal.”
Are you planning on suing the facility for wrongful death?
Good one! Over here, nature will be allowed to take her course, with a little help from the right people, for those who refuse to vote Democrat or GOP-e.
