...Prince William and his wife, Kate, have arrived in New York City on the royal couples first official visit to the U.S.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridges motorcade pulled up outside the Carlyle Hotel on Sunday night to a throng of media and shrieking admirers, who were kept behind police barricades. Kate is expecting their second child in April.
William [will meet] Obama at the White House on Monday...

I have no problem with the royal family.
“The royal family loves to visit Jew haters.”
That’s a rotten thing to say. Go after Obama, not them. They are visiting our President, not visiting him because he is a Jew hater. That is an evil thing to say about this young couple, who seem like lovely ambassadors for their country. Shame on you.
The members of Obama’s own party refused to be seen anywhere near him during their recent reelection campaigns, owing to the fact that he has become so unpopular with the American people, yet the British Royals think it’s a good idea to make a worldwide spectacle of themselves falling all over themselves with appreciation for our lame-duck pariah in the White House?
And did the Royals really need to attend a Hillary Clinton extravaganza, where they will be virtually endorsing her in her presidential bid? This would be like an American president visiting Britain and attending a speech by the leader of its Labour party.
Only wealthy Americans can afford to visit Britain, and the vast majority of them fall into the 50%-plus category who do not support Obama, so if the Royals were expecting their visit to stimulate tourism and foster a new feeling of goodwill between the U.S. and the U.K., boy, were they wrong. Blimey!
More importantly they are meeting Hillary and Chelsea too, according to what I heard on Faux a minute ago.
OOPs, Sorry Maggie. I didn’t read the comments before posting.
Didn’t mean to copy.
Not very ladylike or becoming for a future Queen of England.
I like both of them.
When was the last time a member of the Royal family visited the State of Israel? Only one member of the Royal family has ever visited Israel, and that was for the funeral of Rabin.
However, they have plenty of time to visit Abu Dahbi, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Obama.
Why do you defend monarchs? They are disgusting parasites who only by birth, enjoy enormous riches, wealth and fame, and are exempt from everything the rest of us must endure to live.
so what?
“Why do you defend monarchs? They are disgusting parasites who only by birth, enjoy enormous riches, wealth and fame, and are exempt from everything the rest of us must endure to live.”
You sound bitter and green with envy. The British Monarchy is an enterprise, with vast business interests. They are capitalists, and bring in huge sums of money to Britain through tourism, pomp and ceremony. Way more than their costs to the state.
By the way, any heirs to a fortune made by their capitalist parents in the U.S. are also parasites according to you. You don’t like the idea of inheriting family wealth? Jealous? Not much of a capitalist, are you. Because you didn’t win out as much in life’s lottery, you seem very unhappy about it. Perhaps you’d prefer communism, with all incomes leveled to the same low common denominator. Every country, including ours, has its elites, regardless of how they got there. Learn to live with it.
“Now go home.
Dragons and unicorns. Fairy princesses.”
You missed out leprechauns.
They are only in the United States for 3 days. William is focusing on the awful poaching that is driving certain species to extinction, while Kate is visiting some pre-school kids in Harlem, and attempting to raise funds for a Scottish university.
I’m sure the Republic will survive such a vicious assault.
That is a very sensible and pragmatic view flaglady47. William did not choose his position in life. An essentially shy man (just like his Great-Grandfather King George VI) he has been flung into a harsh spotlight, a spotlight, some might say, that helped kill his mother, and he is attempting to get on with it and make a difference.
People can criticise the system of constitutional monarchy (although it is as popular as it has ever been in the UK) but the personal attacks like ‘disgusting parasites’ are not something you expect from the Right. It is common parlance on the Far-Left of course, where envy dominates, and duty is an alien concept.
Problem is that they are arrogant enough, and have the hubris to make protocol demands of people even in the foreign countries they visit. Did you miss the thread about where they tried to impose a dress code on American media covering them.? They can visit, but they really need to be told to screw off when they don't know their place in someone else's country.
Up until this quip, you were making a decent argument.
You obviously still don't understand the argument against monarchies.
However, they are fashionable and glamorous and the ladies mostly want to know what they are wearing right?
“You obviously still don’t understand the argument against monarchies.”
It’s not your business to choose whether Great Britain wants to maintain a Monarchy (without teeth I might add) as a model for their country or not. You aren’t the head of their parliamentary system. And you don’t seem to understand how Great Britain’s monarchy is set up. It is pointless to argue further with ignorance. Hang it up.
My trust and faith are based in a meritocracy, not a birth rite to dozens of castles and enormous wealth. As such, I loath all monarchies. It is a barbaric relic of the past.
Leprechauns, yes.
I forgot.
It’s just silly.
“As such, I loath all monarchies. It is a barbaric relic of the past.”
You need to find something better to do with your time than loathe monarchies, in particular as you don’t live in one, unless of course you include Hollywood.
