Rep. Justin Amash says police arresting Eric Garner used 'clearly excessive force'
Michigan Live ^ | December 04, 2014 | Andrew Krietz

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The action taken by a New York City police officer against Eric Garner is "clear," writes U.S. Rep. Justin Amash on Wednesday.

Clearly excessive force against #EricGarner. I pray that peace and justice will prevail.

The incident was captured on video, showing Garner talking with police as they suspected him of selling tax-free cigarettes. The 43-year-old man then is overcome by officers who take him down to the sidewalk. Garner cried out, "I can't breathe," several times before becoming motionless.

I agree. However excessive force does not necessarily equal murder.

The person most responsible for his death received immunity from prosecution because of her skin color.

The delicious irony of the St. Garner incident is this:

The Nanny State’s liberal tax policies created a ridiculous law, which, combined with the criminal and obesity nature of St. Garner, caused his ultimate demise.

Blaming cops for his death is like blaming good tires for a high-speed crash.

Uh, what? It would be like blaming the crash on tires that CHOSE to stop gripping the road.

Or better: It would like the guards at Dachau saying, "We were ordered to do it!" There was no one there ordering those cops to wrestle him to the ground and stand around and watch him die.

Doesn't anyone have free will any more? The cops wanted to make a point. They are trained to use maximum force in every situation lest it "get out of control". And, they did. The made a point.

Something to ponder, with many incidences shooting right to the front pages of the propagandist media I am leaning toward a possible try to federalize all local police units under the control of the feds. a national police force just as strong and well equiped as our military, not my statement but the a##clowns several months back, remember? Brown shirts hear we come!

If a suspect refuses arrest what’s the police supposed to do let them go?

This is one time I think the Fed. should actually file criminal rights charges against the cop.

Criminal “civil” rights charges.

Stopping someone over something as inconsequential as a cigarette tax is stupid enough to begin with. Using such force over it is absurd.

Fact is many cops get real angry when you do not obey them. Garner was killed for ‘contempt of cop’.

“Doesn’t anyone have free will any more?”

Free Will is the root of all sins.

St. Garner slapped the cop and was actively resisting arrest. Cops are there to enforce the laws. They cannot selectively enforce and play favors.

Tackling a perp is the most non-lethal method. It is not cops’ fault that the fatass cannot handle the pressure. How about these Saints stop committing crimes. I don’t think cops would be going around killing non-criminals.

The writer is incorrect. Although Mr. Garner lay motionless, he was alert and responsive, telling the onsite EMS (it took approx. 3 min) he couldn’t breath. He was breathing when he was put into the ambulance.

On the way to the hospital, he suffered cardiac arrest, and died.

No choking, no asphyxia, no hypoxia, no strangulation.

That's the first I heard about a slap. Was it on a video?<

BTW, who's calling him a saint?

They did use excessive force but that wasn’t what was up before the grand jury.

There’s no such thing as murder, people are going to grow old and die anyway right?

A ridiculous and absurd example, but it does hit the point hard.

That cop should have been indicted in a New York minute. Hek, if they’re alowed to skip indictment I would have gone straight for charges of manslaughter.

I believe there is ample common law regarding contributing factors for death, but the Law rarely tries to predict the future. Maybe a FRlawyer will correct me.
