Several key aspects of the account of a gang rape offered by a University of Virginia student in Rolling Stone magazine have been cast into doubt, including the date of the alleged attack and details about the alleged attacker, according to interviews and a statement from the magazine backing away from the article.
The U-Va. fraternity chapter where the alleged attack took place in September 2012 released a statement Friday afternoon denying that such an assault took place in its house. Phi Kappa Psi said that it has been working with police to determine whether the account of a brutal rape at a party there was true. The fraternity members say that several important elements of the allegations were false.
A group of Jackies close friends, who are sex assault awareness advocates at U-Va., said they believe something traumatic happened to Jackie but also have come to doubt her account. They said details have changed over time, and they have not been able to verify key points of the story in recent days. A name of an alleged attacker that Jackie provided to them for the first time this week, for example, turned out to be similar to the name of a student who belongs to a different fraternity, and no one by that name has been a member of Phi Kappa Psi.

Rolling Stones editors apologized to readers for discrepancies in the story, issuing a statement and posting it on their Web site. Will Dana, Rolling Stones managing editor, said there is fresh doubt about the account.
In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackies account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced, he said in the statement.

...In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackie’s account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced. We were trying to be sensitive to the unfair shame and humiliation many women feel after a sexual assault and now regret the decision to not contact the alleged assaulters to get their account. We are taking this seriously and apologize to anyone who was affected by the story.

And, I hope "Jackie" likes being raped by her own kind. She needs to spend some quality time in le hoosegow for her vicious slander.
Has anyone checked to see if the reporter was stoned, or tripping, when she wrote the article?
Is is Rolling Stone Magazine, after all.
I am questioning whether Jackie even exists.
Sounds just like the 0bama election theme.
"Dammit, Janet!"
Another make-believe progressive fantasy crashes and burns like the Hindenburg.
Oh the humanity.
And this on top of the mass resignations at New Republic magazine over its change of focus of that magazine....
I expect nothing less from RS - a leftist subculture rag.
It doesn’t matter that there is No Evidence of Wrongdoing, it is only the seriousness of the Charge that warrants investigation.

“Key elements” in doubt ? Like the truth?
Hang on folks. The article gives our side a chance to critique the casual booze, casual dope, casual porn, casual sex, hook-up culture that pervades the academy and has pervaded the academy since the days of takeovers at Columbia, etc.
We have a chance to make the point that once the immoral mass of everything up to the point of non-consensual sex is normalized and legitimized, that non-consensual sex and rape are only the thinnest of lines away.
The article makes two basic claims: 1) a specific gang rape occurred, 2) sexual assault (including rufie sex) is rampant.
We can smell the flaws in #1 while generally agreeing with #2, AND PUT THE BLAME WHERE IT LIES, on secular progressive ideology.
“While the details of this one case may have been misreported, this does not erase the somber truth this article brought to light: Rape is far more prevalent than we realize,”
With all that rape going on, you’d think the media could have come up with at least ONE case that wasn’t a fake.
BTW, I hope the fraternity has grounds to sue the crap out of Rolling Stone and win. Also, this whole fiasco continues to underscore the complete lack of credibility that RS has about anything anymore. When I read the original RS article when it was posted here, I wondered if the story was actually true or not.
massive Libel suit and damages lawsuit by the Frat that was blamed

Fake but accurate?
Or maybe, “Accurate but fake?”
