They act like a drilling rig and well will be spaced every 50 feet or so. There won’t be that many of them compared to the size of the bird’s range.

This is the same stupid argument they made about the Alaskan pipeline hurting or destroying the Caribou migration routes.

Wrong then : Wrong now.

We’re talking about thousands of square miles, and a drilling pad takes 10 acres tops. A square mile is 640 acres.

I can’t see the problem here.

Birds are not stupid. They will adapt and thrive. Probably wind up with more sage grouse that there is now..................

Just the latest example of Obama shutting down drilling on Federal Land.

I'm waiting for Obama to take credit for the current low gas prices.

INTERESTING, the US gov. permits the abortion of human beings, yet wants to save the life of sage grouse.

Apparently, grouse are more important than human beings.

They’ll stop drilling, but not stop wind farms, for birds.

Hmmmm.

We have some Sage Grouse around here on the western slope. Have to watch for them during Grouse season as they are protected.

The favorite grouse hang out when they are mating is under a big walkie-talkie repeater for the local firemen. It reflects signals so they can talk across the hills during wildfires. It looks like a small drive-in theater screen on a grassy knob. Manmade structures either attract them or don’t bother them, how about that?

Also, I am a partner on 38 acres of mineral rights currently producing nat gas in Texas. There is nothing visible on the land. The wellhead is on a 2 acre site with 4 other wellheads about 3/10 of a mile away, across a highway. The pay hole runs horizontally through 18 different property/mineral right owners for several miles.

we definitely cannot let this stop our energy development and independence.

however, after looking up just what a “sage grouse” is,
it turns out its a little bird that lives under sage bushes (of which there are millions!)

anyway its a pretty looking little bird. and it is remarkably human behaviour-wise, too.... see WIki quote below.
SO, anything we can reasonably do to help the little fellas, ....?

————from Wiki website::

“Greater Sage-Grouse are notable for their elaborate courtship rituals. Each spring males congregate in leks and perform a “strutting display”. Groups of females observe these displays and select the most attractive males to mate with. The dominant male located in the center of the lek typically copulates with around 80% of the females on the lek. Males perform in leks for several hours in the early morning and evening during the spring months.”
