The Staten Island man who took the cellphone video seen around the world of a cop killing Eric Garner with a chokehold said Thursday the grand jury was rigged. I think they already had their minds made up, Ramsey Orta told the Daily News a day after the panel voted not to charge Officer Daniel Pantaleo with a crime.

Has any info on how the jury was charged been released? Anything on what they were allowed to consider?
People was on their phones...
Donovan wasnt even asking no questions about the police
The rest of them, they weren't even worried about nothing.
If you knew he was selling cigarettes why didn't you tell him the cops was there?
Well miss, we know the cops is there every day.
First of all, you ain't gonna tell me how to talk...
Well, that settles it. Guy says it’ s rigged, it’s rigged. Right? End of story!
What rubbish.
” Did I hear this guy was arrested nearly 30 times prior to this incident?”
Correct
At the link there is a pic of him being escorted into a courthouse in cuffs to face weapons charges.
If you dont like the law on cigarette smuggling, get it changed or repealed.
But that doesnt give one standing to break the law.
It also should not mean a death sentence.
I agree, I’m more than a little embarrassed at how many FReepers are dumb enough to think that police make laws or that they get off on screwing with these pointless arrests.
While I personally think Garner’s was a wrongful death, the blame lies at the feet of those who make stupid laws. Its also important to note that these cops weren’t just out trolling to harass people. They had been called.
Its all too typical. If police don’t do anything, people throw a fit. If they do something, the same people throw a fit.
You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.
Rahm Emanuel
So selling illegal cigarettes is should be a capital crime?
He should have been given a citation and been told when he needs to be in court. Every one of those cops in that video should be in jail right now. Many of you don’t seem to get it. It doesn’t matter what color your skin is, cops look at all non cops the same. We are the enemy in their eyes. This attitude needs to stop yesterday. Gardner didn’t do anything to give the NYPD the right to kill him. PERIOD!
You’re saying NYC is effectively Nazi Germany?
Disagree with your comparison. We live in a civil society; certainly imperfect but without respect for the law it’s anarchy.
Agree, however...he would have ignored the court summons. Then a warrant would be issued. Then the cops would have attempted to arrest him for the warrant. And he would have resisted. Either way, there was going to be a confrontation with this guy.
From the footage I’ve been seeing, Garner was saying “I can’t breathe” after the choke hold was released. The officer (wearing a green T-shirt) who had him in the choke hold, was actually on his back with his knee on the back of his head when Garner was saying “I can’t breath.” I don’t think Garner died from that choke hold because it was not used for a matter of seconds.
Yes, but those who are charged with upholding the laws don’t have the right to just kill you. Police in this country need to change their bullshiite mindset. The people are not the enemy, and they are not warriors.
Correction to my last post - I dont think Garner died from that choke hold because it was ONLY used for a matter of seconds.
If anything, the video supports the police. And I think this guy is like Michael Brown’s friend, Dorian, a criminal.
I think he already had his mind made up and doesn't know squat.
He did not resist or threaten the officers in any way. I’ve watched the same video you have and cannot come to the conclusion that he resisted. The man did not deserve to die on the sidewalk like that.
How in the hell does the video support the police? There is no way any reasonable person can say the cops were justified in any use of force during this mess.
There is a blatant conflict of interest. The city tax on cigarettes is used to fund the salaries of the police that enforce it.
Hmm.
