Charles Krauthammer said Wednesday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that a grand jury's decision not to indict a New York City police officer in the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died in July after the officer placed him in a chokehold, is "totally incomprehensible."
"It looks like they at least might have indicted him on something like involuntary manslaughter at the very least," Krauthammer, a syndicated columnist and Fox News contributor, said. "The guy was unarmed, and the crime was petty as they come. He was selling loose cigarettes, which in and of itself is almost absurd that somebody has to die over that."

The guy in NY wasn't killed for selling loose cigarettes. That's like saying Brown was killed for walking in the middle of the street.
That's absurd.
Think. Discern.
I absolutely agree!
“Pretty soon its all over town that folks can sell cigarettes on the street with impunity.”
The horror...the horror...
People should be free to sell their own damned cigarettes without the government demanding a piece of the action.

I don’t know, this seems to say otherwise:
“Members of the New York City Police Department will NOT use chokeholds. A chokehold shall include, but is not limited to, any pressure to the throat or windpipe, which may prevent or hinder breathing or reduce intake of air.”

Damn I hate to go against law enforcement, but on this one, they were wrong.
This is possibly going to be the ignition of far worse things to come in this country.
I’m getting tired of hearing people say this guy couldn’t breath.
If you are talking out loud you can breath.
It takes air going in and out of your throat, your vocal chords, and mouth and tongue to speak.
No air......no sound.
It’s always about money and power! It’s a political thing and not party specific.
If a young thug reaches into your patrol car and attempts to take your gun away, I think a cop can be excused for becoming "confrontational".
Tasers kill more people resisting arrest than submission holds do.
At least I recall several deaths in NYC from tasers. I don't for submission holds.
Tasering Garner certainly would have been risky given his health.
He was breathing. Speech is reliant on air moving in and out of lungs.
If he could say “I can’t breathe” he was breathing.
These sections also seem to be relevant:
“Whenever possible, members should make every effort to avoid tactics, such as sitting or standing on a subject’s chest, which may result in chest compression, thereby reducing the subject’s ability to breathe.”
“If a person appears to be having difficulty breathing or is otherwise demonstrating life-threatening symptoms, medical assistance will be requested immediately. The patrol supervisor will direct that alternate means to maintain custody be utilized, if appropriate.”
Lurker, I’ll come back tomorrow. I have to go now.
Take care.
I agree. There’s just no reason to have six cops take a guy down like that under these circumstances.
It’s either comply or die. Why the need to force a deadly or even just a potentially deadly situation here?
It makes no sense to me.
No, he isn’t.
Anyone can see quite clearly by comparing the picture of the cop and man to the two choke holds that I posted that the cop wasn’t choking him at all. Not even a little bit.
The dude died from his own weight.
That’s why they didn’t indict the officer.
I was going by the Police Chief’s statement of last night referencing wooden batons.
I have to go now. If you wish to respond I’ll reply tomorrow.
Take care.
....”The dude died from his own weight”....
Even if so...the guy kept telling them he couldn’t breath many times over....so the Grand Jury had to have something we are not privy to.
It wasn’t a choke hold.
See post 69 if you want to see a choke hold.
Same result though, and we wouldn't be having this discussion either had the cop(s) used a taser.
Tasers kill more people resisting arrest than submission holds do.
No argument there, but I will bet you anything that there are a lot of cops tonight re- thinking their options in a capture scenario, just for their own protection.
By all means please do..
It wasn’t choke hold.
See post 69 if you want to see what a choke hold looks like.
