Chevy Colorado beats F-150 for Truck of the Year
money.cnn.com ^ | December 3, 2014 | Peter Valdes-Dapena

You might have figured Ford's new all-aluminum F-150 would be a shoo-in for Motor Trend's 2015 Truck of the Year award, but you'd be wrong. General Motors had its own all-new truck in the running and that vehicle, the mid-sized Chevrolet Colorado, took the prize.

The Colorado is GM's new model that's designed to compete against trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. Neither Ford (F) nor Chrysler Group (FCAU)'s Ram truck brand offer trucks this size any longer. It is smaller than the full-size Chevrolet Silverado truck.

"Colorado is a smart, capable, and refreshingly honest truck that makes a strong value and efficiency statement," Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh said in a statement. "It's perfectly sized and suited for the needs of many of today's truck users."

Just a comment on what you said about LED lights. They make a good light, but are often not replaceable except as a light ass’y,which can be pricey.

It probably is still running somewhere in Asia or Central America. True story. I am on my third Toyota Tacoma(89, 99, 2012). When I sold the 1989, I had two guys that wanted to buy it and ship it overseas. One shipped them to Central America and South America. The other one shipped them to Asia. These guys were only interested in Toyotas and Nissan/Datsuns. Nothing else. They were also primarily interested in trucks that would not pass inspection in the US due to rust/frame issues. They told me they loaded them in containers and would sell them for triple the price in those markets.

Not long after that, the war in Afghanistan broke out. You would see on the news bunches of guys riding around in our pickups with a machine gun mounted in the back. This led me to go on Zazzle and make a bumper sticker that said:

TOYOTA TACOMA
Official Vehicle of the Taliban

Some people did not see the humor in that bumper sticker. Some thought it was hilarious. I figured that some folks just do not have a sense of humor.

Well, yes, you’re right. But I’d bet on the longer life. I’ve got a few here in my house that have really lasted for years. One or two over 5 years, I’m guessing.

With a DC system, all an LED needs is to drop the voltage and current some (resistors)....don’t need transformers, transistor/regulators, or any of that mess.

For my house, everywhere I can now goes to an LED.......

Well, if my Datsun ended up as a MG platform, I certainly hope a Hawkeye took it out many years ago, along with about a half dozen Muslims.

Colorados have a host of known engine issues

Previous models. I'm sure with the new design they'll also get a new engine.

I’d never thought of that. That is stupid design, isn’t it?

But I wish that Ford would start making a small pickup again.

Ford Truck Engineering is in Dearborn and they have a hand in the ex-US "Ranger" and I see them driving around ( the enganeers take them home from work sometimes ) and it is one good looking Truck in person...

The Ford engineers designed the width inside the wheelwells of my Expedition to JUST fit 4 ft wide sheet goods. A 4x8 panel will stick out a couple feet in the rear, but that’s fine for weekend warrior home repair and improvement. It is a great vehicle — everything is enclosed and secure, quiet, reliable, LOTS of power with the big V8. Super reliability at 10 years old and 160k on the clock. Only downside is the 13 mpg around town — and that is with an EXTREMELY light foot on the go pedal (takes me 30 - 40 seconds to reach 60 mph when the ramp and freeway are clear).

Yes it is. I get stuck driving a Silverado some times and it is the same way, full of water every time it rains.

I have to back it down my lane into the woods to get it on a hill steep enough to drain the 3” of water in the front of the bed. Then set there several min for it to drain.

Chevy trucks are worthless crap.

Anything under a 1/2 ton is useless as the El Camino. Just buy a mini van and leave your testicle's in the truck.

If it did come back, making it along the lines of the original baby Bronco would be great. Always liked those.

The main one I know of is (I may not explain it exactly right here); there is a screen that falls off the crankcase breather and ruins the engine (gets sucked into the engine and winds up in the cam or the crank) usually around 60-90K miles - happened to my Son’s colorado at about 70K. At the time, there was tons of info on the web about that, can’t seem to find it now.

Supposedly this issue is fixed now...
prematurely worn valve seats:
http://repairpal.com/worn-valve-seats-may-cause-engine-misfire-115

The passlock system has caused a fair number of issues, but that’s not directly engine related...

I don’t trust government motors - didn’t trust them before, don’t trust them now.

I agree with you.

Toyota makes a good truck if I have to leave Ford.

My last Chevy was an S10 that I drove till the wheels fell off (literally). But after the bail out, I went with a Ford.

Made many in my extended family angry

This has been the truck of the year since 2003. From what I see, it still is. Too bad Toyota ruined it by making it bigger.

Why would they build a car like that? They are in the business of selling cars multiple times, not once.
