A march for racial justice Friday night turned ugly as hundreds of protesters converged on Union Square and frightened crowds of shoppers by smashing windows and attacking police.

They kept talking about the “peaceful protest”

They said some of the streets were blocked off but not why

They didn’t mention people trying to break windows on Stockton st

When it comes down to it, we are all ultimately responsible for our own safety, security, and well-being.
I feel bad when friends, coworkers, classmates, or whomever feel police must/will provide protection.
As mentioned, the Supreme Court has determined police are under no such commitment.

I agree they are dropping the ball protecting the rights of the many, coddling the disruptive anti-government protests. But these things are a sort of a national version of a domestic dispute. As soon as they use force to stop the violent offenders, the public turns on them like the battered wife. Force has to be met with greater force, otherwise you have a stand off, and the public doesn’t have the stomach for that force, yet. Cops are nothing without the support of society, and we as a society are going to have to decide how much of these anti-government protests we will tolerate.
