Along with his more sensationalized executive order granting some illegal immigrants a chance to stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation, President Barack Obama quietly ended a controversial program on Thursday that had deported 283,000 of them after they were arrested for crimes other than border-crossing.
The Secure Communities program has been in place in limited form since 2006, and expanded nationwide in 2008. It allowed local law enforcement to hold arrestees and convicts 48 hours after they were officially bailed or released, if they were in the county illegally, so federal agents could pick them up and start immigration proceedings.
Instead, the administration has replaced it with a much narrower program that limits the list of qualifying offenses and only lets the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency intervene after an illegal immigrant is convicted.
Many make bail and never return to court to face their charges, however.
'The presidents decision to suspend a program helping law enforcement identify and deport dangerous criminals from our country is indefensible,' Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn said Friday, 'and his actions will only tie the hands of law enforcement officials trying to keep criminals off our streets and our communities safe.'
Obama, he said, 'has neither the will nor the leadership ability to do what presidents before him have done: work with Congress to achieve meaningful reforms. Instead, hes chosen to ignore the rule of law and launch another massive executive power grab that has grave security consequences for all Americans.'
Obama's decision could help the federal government prioritize its strained resources to focus on deporting 'felons, not families,' as Obama promised in a prime-time speech Thursday night.
'We're going to keep focusing enforcement resources on actual threats to our security,' he said.

Maybe you've forgotten, but Romney won the nomination EASILY, and he only lost the general election by about 3% of the popular vote. If more of us had showed up in key states, we might have avoided this abomination.
Sometimes there is no good solution. A liberal gets the office either way.
You act like conservatives owe Republicans their vote. They don't.
Want my vote, run a conservative.
Liberal republicans won't be winning any presidential elections. Romney should have showed you the futility of that. Liberal republicans don't win presidential elections.
/johnny
Romney’s job was to block a conservative from getting the nomination, he could care less what happened after that.
Alright, Remembering that Romney got about 40% of the votes during the primaries (I'm going by memory) over seven or eight contenders, how do you propose to get the left leaning electorate to nominate a Conservative? I've given some of my answers on other threads. What are yours?
No, he and the GOP gamed the system.
And because of that, you will lose more and more votes.
/johnny
Cheating.
That's just one example of how the GOP-E gamed the system.
My solution is to get rid of liberal republicans, at either the primary or IN THE GENERAL election.
Get used to losing, since you would rather defend liberal republicans than fight for conservatives.
/johnny
How? What are your conspiracy theories on this?
And the GOP has open primaries mostly.
They were closed in my state, but I agree this is a problem.
And they let liberal NE states vote first in the primary so that when large red states get to the primary, only the liberal GOP types remain.
You either didn't review the schedule before posting this comment, or you were hoping I wouldn't. Or maybe you think that Iowa, South Carolina, and Missouri are liberal NE states. Review the schedule and try again.
Do you remember Florida? They voted early in the primary. By the rules, they should have only seated 50% at the convention. By changing the rules, all of the delegates got seated. Cheating.
They cut Florida's delegate count from 99 to 50. I'll let you look into how many delegates were seated, and we can continue this discussion later.

I guess they will now be released so they can start preying on our community and making a living doing things honest American citizens refuse to do?
This will make staying off the roads unless absolutely necessary, concealed carry, and home defense preps even more important in our neck of the woods.
These people aren't going away nor are they going to be deported as they are now being held for. I guess they'll just become ordinary American citizens working hard, paying their taxes, voting for the "right" people, and spreading that love and those family values around we hear so much about to all!
It is really getting about time to circle the wagons...
A good eye opener. Take any city, county state, etc and put most wanted behind it and plug it into a search engine.
Ie: Kern County most wanted.
I got 4 out of 6

States: Help Us, Criminal Illegals Swamp Budgets, Prisons
The General Accounting Office estimates that as of 2009 there were currently about 350,000 criminal aliens in U.S. prisons, the majority from Mexico. At $30,000 per year, per inmate, thats $11 billion annually, with most of the costs born by the states.
While not all of the criminal aliens are here illegally, criminal illegals are putting a strain on budgets, especially in the states with large illegal immigration populations such as Arizona, Colorado, California, Florida, New York, and Texas.
Not coincidentally, many of those same states are facing the largest budget shortfalls for fiscal year 2011 and 2012, including New York and California. Some estimate state budget shortfalls of over $100 billion in 2012 across state governments in the U.S.
In California, its estimated that prisoners who are illegal immigrants cost the state at least $1 billion per year just to keep them in prison.
States that have sanctuary policies should not get one nickle of federal funding for crime prevention, prisons or anything else affected by high numbers of illegals.
They want to welcome these border jumpers.. let them welcome them on their OWN nickel.
I am binary on this.
Come in the front door and I’ll extend you a welcome.
Break in the backdoor (don’t care who you are), bang you’re dead.
my mother was right. it’s not that he’s just a bad president. he HATES the country.
States Could Balance Budgets if They’d Stop Paying for Illegal Aliens:
State Budget Gaps vs. State and Local Outlays for Illegal Immigration 2009 (Figures Shown in Millions)
State: California; Budget Gap: $19,639; Illegal Alien Cost: $21,756; Difference: -$2,117; As % of gap: 110.8%
State: New York; Budget Gap: $1,707; Illegal Alien Cost: $9,479; Difference: -$7,772; As % of gap: 555.3%
State: Arizona; Budget Gap: $2,432; Illegal Alien Cost: $2,569; Difference: -$136.80; As % of gap: 105.6%
State: Nevada; Budget Gap: $1,094; Illegal Alien Cost: $1,191; Difference: -$97; As % of gap: 108.9%
State: Michigan; Budget Gap: $313; Illegal Alien Cost: $929; Difference: -$616; As % of gap: 296.8%

The Most Wanted illegal alien in my county has several different aliases several different social security numbers and several different birthdays.
I did. According to your original GOPe conspiracy theory, "And they let liberal NE states vote first in the primary so that when large red states get to the primary, only the liberal GOP types remain." IOW, the GOPe front loaded the liberal NE states so that it would be decided early, and for Romney.
Now, having seen that is totally false, your point seems to be that the primaries were designed by the GOPe to be decided early for Romney because Iowa and New Hampshire were among the first.
The primaries were spread out early, so your original point is proven false. If you think the primaries were decided in Iowa and New Hampshire because they were among the first, well, run with that as your new GOPe conspiracy theory.
Great work. Thanks for the notice.
I suppose it was Romney's fault that Bachmann, who was leading, gaffed herself out of the race. Or that Cain, who was leading later, either couldn't control himself or caved under false and easily refuted accusations. Or that the other Conservatives were simply ineffective.
he could care less what happened after that.
I actually agree with that, though not for the reason you meant.
