Did the officer go home safely?
That is all that matters.

I have some airguns and BB guns.

I can envision b3ing shot by a cop who mistakes it for a real firearm.

Then again, I could put his eye out.

Another “waistband” mistake? Or justified?

...

Officers receive a call of a male with a gun. Officers arrive, see the gun on the table, suspect puts the gun in his waistband. The officer tells the suspect to put his hands in the air. The suspect pulls the gun out of his waistband instead. The officer shoots the suspect.

The entire country is on pins and needles...and angry...so are the police departments...which I can’t blame them for. So with this tension nationwide affecting so many there are going to be happenings nobody’s going to like that happen.

With the gangs etc. today using children as young as 7 and 8 ...I would not trust a 12 yr. old one bit...kids are forced to mature beyond their capability to understand yet foolish parents put them in adult like rolls just the same.

Besides...we’re all about getting guns now, and everybody knows it......so some 12 yr. old listening to the news or what ever may very well think he needs one too...

I don’t care to know the circumstances in this.... with the country as it is this is going to happen now...and the media is always looking for a story they can run with that would have political meaning.

It depends on the gun.

Some bb guns are made to look like actual real glocks or whatever. Can’t tell beforehand b/c they are not made with any indicator they are bb guns.

And why would a kid’s first instinct be to pull out a gun he had in his pants? I was a kid and I’d never have thought that was the right thing to do if a cop was coming over to me.

Cops might say it’s justified, but really, this was a 12-year-old child with a toy gun. Is it justified shooting a 12-year-old? What if he were 8, or 6, or…? Cops are too trigger happy nowadays. Dangerous being a cop? That’s what they signed up for, and they need to stop being a-holes.

Probably ought to send up a few prayers that the little guy recovers, and hope the Cleveland Police Department has good liability insurance.

Next, they’ll do a no knock raid, shoot the family dog, flash bang the boy’s baby brother, beat up the grandfather and taze the mother. All for the public’s safety.

Ohio Police seem to love shooting people with BB guns.

The toy looks totally different from the Colt 1911 Black Rail 45 - look at that trigger. Why couldn't the rookie cop see the trigger and the difference between a .177 caliber opening and a .45 caliber opening on a moving object when "responding to reports of a male with a gun . . . saw a black gun sitting on the table, and he saw the boy pick up the gun and put it in his waistband . . . told the boy to put his hands up. The boy reached into his waistband, pulled out the gun . . ."

What kind of rookie can't tell the difference between a toy and a gun when a kid makes an unexpected movement to grab the concealed toy in that situation? He has been told there is a gun. He has seen what he thinks is a gun. He has seen that kid act like a potential danger to others twice - concealing the presumed gun and then drawing it when told to put his hands up. He should have been thinking "that's probably a toy", shouldn't he? [I'd work in some "shoot the dog" sarcasm too, but it just doesn't fit this story. Sorry.]

If the parents and black "leaders" wanted the boy to live, they should have taught him not to disobey police and not to carry guns or look-alikes in his waistband. I don't blame the cop for seeing what he expected to see when the kid made that interpretation so easy.

Simple rule: If you are going to start a gunfight you might want to actually bring a gun and be prepared to use it. The only one there who knew that it wasn’t a real gun was the dummy who pulled it out when told not to.

From the article, it’s clear that somebody a)had a “BB gun” at a rec center for intimidation not regulated target practice. b)didn’t follow police orders and took the weapon into his hand. It was only a lack of marksmanship that put this kid in the hospital rather than the morgue.

A few posts below is this one:

Children Stripped at New Philly Courthouse

In another post here, HS teaches kids what to do if stopped by police
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3230141/posts

It appears that children are considered armed and dangerous... and often are. In the inner city, 12-yrs-old is old enough to be dangerous. (BB Guns are dangerous, too.)

I agree, too many kids are getting shot. But, if I see you put what looks like a gun into your waistband and order you to put your hands up — and you pull the gun instead — you will be shot.

Parents are aware of the dangers and are responsible for teaching their children how to avoid getting shot. Number one lesson should be to obey the officer! Do not pull something out of your waistband or pockets instead.
