Some historians and political observers were surprised over the weekend when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, chief of Americas NATO ally, said Muslims discovered the Americas more than 300 years before Christopher Columbus.
But the Islamic leader was doing nothing more than stating publicly what Islamic historians have said, including some who believe Native Americans who spoke Arabic greeted Muslim adventurers hundreds of years before the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria sailed.
Among those reporting Erdogans statement was the BBC, which noted his AK Party is rooted in political Islam.
Erdogan said, Muslim sailors arrived in America in 1178, but BBC said he gave no further evidence to back up this theory.
Most historians credit Columbus with making known the Americas to the European and Middle East worlds after his 1492 voyage in the three ships.

Let’s give Erdogan the benefit of the doubt, and say that Muslims really did discover America 300 years before Columbus. This simply proves that they were too stupid to recognize the importance of it, and tell someone about it.
When someone pointed out that it was really the Vikings that discovered America, one Italian once said, yes, but when Columbus discovered America, it stayed discovered.
The Piri Reis map is good evidence, and fascinating.
Charles Hapgood was great researcher.
Muslims discovered America in 1178? Sure, and they discovered toilet paper in 1975.
The Vikings, the muslims, the Chinese, the Irish and many others had apparently made it here before Columbus. The difference is that Columbus was able to return home with accurate maps of how to get here and was the first of many from Europe who followed his maps to return and to start exploration, explotitation, trade and settlements. He should get the credit, he left a mark. If muslims found there way here they apparently left nothing and didn’t have the foresight to recognize and/or couldn’t find their way back.
People who were here didn’t know where they were. They knew essentially where each other were so as to prey upon, and oft times eat each other.
Had they greater internal organization and ships, they might have invaded Europe. But they didn’t.
So why aren’t there a lot of (American) Indians in Europe?
I suppose there are these days.
“No. The ancestors of the Native Americans did, some 14,000 years ago.”
From France, followed the ice North around the European coast in small boats and followed the edge of ice North, West and then South to America and settled around the Chespeake Bay. Hunting seals on the way provided them with Meat, oil and animal skins. After a drought they migrated West and most likely assimilated with the American Indians that had crossed the Bering Strait. Clovis points, arrowheads and spearpoints, found in Clovis, New Mexico, have matching charistics as those found around the Chespeake Bay and in Southern France.
Good point and I’d bet the indigenous population did not want to be found; especially those who love goats beyond pets and behead their fellow man. We have one lying his way through our destruction.
Why invade Europe? It was already dirty and crowded. They had two continents here with all the resources.
And didn’t even know it.
Is Islam becoming more stupid, daily?
