A Citrus County deputy is on administrative leave after officials say he fatally shot a woman who pointed a taser at him during a disturbance call in Inverness late Sunday night.
According to the Citrus County Sheriffs Office, the deputy identified as Jacob Chenoweth shot 46-year-old Dawn Renee Cameron following a struggle after receiving the call at 550 W. Independence Hwy., Lot 60, in Inverness.
A witness told deputies she attempted to light a truck on fire then left the scene.
Once the deputy encountered Cameron at the entrance to the park, the Citrus County Sheriffs Office said Cameron attacked him, removing the deputys taser and pointing it at him.
The deputy then shot Cameron, the sheriffs office said.
Cameron was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after midnight, the sheriffs office said.
An investigation is under way, the sheriffs office said.
Chenoweth has been with the Citrus County Sheriffs Office since March 8, 2010, records show, and he has no previous incidents or disciplines on file.
Just the kind of woman you'd like to bring home to Mom huh?
“Mentally ill people can be very strong.”
Once there was a little ol ant, thought he’d move a rubber tree plant... Crazy ant.
cops are guilty unless proven innocent
They have earned that distinction, I would say...
Not all. Good evening sir.

“Not all.”
Were you aware that there are more non-criminal citizens killed by cops than are killed by criminals? That’s a fact.
Do some basic research...
I happen to have known Dawn personally as we worked together at one point and I have no doubt that it happened like the officer said. Dawn was more like a man than a woman and she didn’t have mental illness as much as a drug problem that made her act crazy. She had prior convictions for domestic battery, drug charges and burglary among others. I wasn’t surprised that she went out this way. She was good friends with two scum bags who robbed me at gun point in a series of store robberies also. She was far from an innocent person.
er
That's not exactly a fact.
It's more a twisting of statistics.
Thankfully, known criminals mostly always kill other known criminals. In very large numbers, and often well before any cop even gets a chance to kill even one of them!(sarcasm)
Prior to conviction criminals (or in your opinion: non-criminals) are not really non-criminal citizens.
I didn't grow up in a black hoodlum run community, just a semi-rural white hoodlum run community.
Trash is trash.
Poor white trash people don't riot when the cops manage to take out a player. We breathe a silent sigh of relief.
I don't understand why poor black trash people would feel any different.
I really don't understand people like you, who don't have any real clue about what goes on in no-go crime areas, who keep on talking trash about cops killing citizens.
Do you really believe that people on this website are naive?
“I happen to have known Dawn personally as we worked together at one point and I have no doubt that it happened like the officer said.”
So that’s cool, you and her were close... The officer probably knew her personally too. What does that have to do with it?
Police, whenever they kill someone always lie. Haven’t you noticed that? The cop most likely killed her because she dissed him, and made the tazer thing up to cover his a$$. They always have an excuse... “oh, he went for his cell phone and I thought it was a gun”. Same old, same old.
The fix for this, BTW, is that anytime a cop kills a perp, he should loose his job and his pension. No appeal... Cops should be trained to handle a situation with out using deadly force. If your not up to the job, find another one...
“That’s not exactly a fact. It’s more a twisting of statistics.”
No, it is a fact... If you are a law abiding citizen... I for instance, don’t drive over the speed limit, I fasten my seat belt, don’t take advantage of my fellow citizens, don’t lie or cheat steal or embezzle. Don’t do drugs and pay my taxes every year on time. And don’t deal with the criminal class... And go to church every Sunday.
The ONLY times ( in 68 years) I have had a gun pointed at me (twice) was a cop at a tragic stop. It was a glock in both cases, and with no safety, all that stood between life and death for me was a sneeze.
Your just wrong...
The police really need to start understanding how much of the country they've lost.
I had this exact conversation with a cop just a week ago. They have no idea.
