COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Two men are facing charges after they were accused of target shooting in the basement of a Colorado Springs home.

Police say they responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired inside the house on Saturday. Officers say as they approached the house they heard more shots and noticed the front door was open.

I have no way of knowing if they were being responsible. This may be, yet another made up story to try to take guns away from people.

Let's surmise that they had taken adequate precautions. I know on my property which way is the safest way to shoot and I also know where my neighbors are. They may have had a big box of sand to shoot into. We don't know because the details are lacking.

True. With the proper soundproofing, I think it would be OK. Sound proofing for the shooter that is.

I used to mow over the mole hills in my back yard. When I put the mower up I would grab my 12 ga. When the moles would try pluggin up their holes, I would plug them. It was very effective. Neighbors never turned me in.

One of the last times I visted my grandmother’s house I noticed that her elk painting (she was an artist and this was Idaho) had a hole where the elk’s heart would be. She smiled and said, “Oh, your father did that. He was practicing his snap shooting—he was always such a good shot.”

True. They could’ve had a perfectly correct setup with no fear of bullets leaving the property.

I have long dreamed of having a range in the house...at least for pistol practice.

My husband used to live in Colorado. The liberals have invaded. Very sad.

Backstop? I built one from plywood and filled it with rubber mulch. I can shoot 5.56 into it lengthwise and catch the bullets or up to 9mm +p into the sides and catch the bullets. I shoot mostly .22lr into a rubber-mulch-filled target bucket, with the backstop to catch anything that might stray. From my morning room through the kitchen and into the garage I can get ten + yards easily.

After reading this thread, I may have to start using a suppressor ...

“I am reminded of a story my Dad tells from time to time. My Great Grandfather horse traded for a rifle and wanted to try it out, but it was raining and he didn’t feel like standing outside. The farmhouse had a central hallway from the front door to the back door and he pinned a target onto an oak in the backyard. He set up on the front porch and fired a few rounds through the house.”

That’s where the phrase “shotgun shack” comes from. Its a house so small you could shoot a shotgun from the front door through the backdoor without hitting anything.

“...I’ve had this conversation many hoplophiaites...”

And there’s your opening to say “Tell you what. I’ll take you to the range and TEACH you.”

I became a firearms instructor just for that reason. Every gun owner we create/convert is one less for the other side.

Especially women; you teach a woman to shoot, to be able to protect herself, and give her the appreciation of the fact that she can - I can guarantee you NO ONE will ever take a firearm out of her hands.

I have an old article from the 1960s on how to set up a basement gun range. It said to use empty centerfire brass that has been reprimed and pressed into paraffin cakes.

It works! Also good for popping stray dogs and cats. It WILL go through pasteboard boxes and will raise a welt and bruise on anyone you hit with one.

When I bought a .45 Colt pistol 46 years ago, the seller gave me two boxes of plastic cases loaded with paraffin.
