A video posted online claims to show that Islamic State militants have killed the captured US aid worker Abdul-Rahman Kassig.
The video shows a masked man standing over a severed head which he says is that of Mr Kassig.
The US says it is working to determine the authenticity of the video, which also shows a mass beheading of 18 Syrian troops.
Mr Kassig, also known as Peter, was captured last year.
His family, who live in the US state of Indiana, said they were awaiting confirmation of the reports about their "treasured son".
"We prefer our son is written about and remembered for his important work and the love he shared with friends and family, not in the manner the hostage takers would use to manipulate Americans and further their cause," the family said in a statement.

Welllll ... actually if you are unencumbered by the process of a tortured Orwellian PC re-interpretation, that there is pretty much the best working two word summary I've come across for what the koran sets out as an heroic vision for what ardent young muslims can aspire to become if they are dedicated students and work very hard at it.

Call me a bad person, but I have zero sympathy for this coward or his family. His mother is still wearing a burka to show "solidarity" with ISIS. The family is still speaking out in support for terrorists despite the fact these cut throats beheaded their son.

I doubt this man was a Christian, as a true Christian would never deny Jesus or God. I'm betting he grew up as a secularist or some really liberal church like Unitarian or Evangelical Lutheran Church where everything holy is trashed and every trashy is honored.

The news said he had converted. Probably in an effort to save his life.
I was eating at a nice restaurant (upscale) yesterday and a muzzie, his wife and two brats were sitting 10 feet away. I say “brats” because that’s what they were. They never sat down and were constantly running around. She was constantly going back and forth to the buffet brunch and was dressed in blue jeans while he just sat in his seat reading something. Probably the Koran.
It was almost too much to take. Mercifully, they left. Never saw them eat much.
I think all Muslims that won’t disavow in the strongest terms and publicly their cults murderous ways should be deported!
And, why should cultists mosques be allowed? They are not a religion!
