Sen. Bob Corker 'Frustrated' with Conservative Amnesty Opponents
Breitbart ^ | 7 Nov 2014 | Tony Lee

On Thursday, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) showed disdain for conservatives who object to massive amnesty legislation that he wants a GOP-led Congress to enact. To Corker, those who oppose amnesty because they care about the rule of law, American workers, and sovereignty and secure borders are nothing but "demagogues."

“I get really frustrated with people on my side of the aisle who say that anything you do on immigration is amnesty,” Corker reportedly said on Thursday. “I saw it play out in these congressional races, where people were actually trying to solve the problem, and the only word people used was amnesty.”

Corker, who was behind the sham amendment to give cover to Republicans voting for the Senate's massive "Gang of Eight" amnesty bill, said he hopes that "we don’t let demagogues prevail, and that we finally deal with this issue and put it behind us."

Corker took issue with opponents of the Senate's "Gang of Eight" bill who pointed out that giving a pathway to citizenship to all of the country's illegal immigrants amounted to "amnesty." Corker reportedly "stressed that under the bill it would have taken 15 years to go through the process of gaining legal status, and that it also would have denied federal benefits to anybody in the country illegally for 10 years."

“I don’t know, is that amnesty?” he scoffed.

"...illegal entry is classified as a misdemeanor,...."

That argument is a bit of a straw man. Since most commit additional crimes, re-entry, document fraud, etc, most could be -and many are- charged with felonies.

So, you don't think illegal entry should be re-classified as a felony -- that it's not necessary?

When you do not enforce, then rewrite law to the benefit of those who break it...yeah, that’s amnesty.

Give it the death penalty if you like. My point is that the” it’s only a misdemeanor” is a false argument. Many have entered multiple times, and 99% commit felony offenses as their second act.

Senator, you can’t find illegals and visa overstayers now, so how are you going to track them over a 15 year period?

You must be a special kind of stupid.

We’re also told they won’t be on welfare...well, obviously they are...and they are supposed to know English...which is why we need ballots in any number of languages, and bilingual schools.

Oh, I think Corker should show the GOP and take his gang of eight backstabbers to the other side of the aisle.

Anything short of enforcing existing immigration law IS amnesty, Corky.

Former ‘Car Czar’ Rattner agrees: Now is the perfect time to raise gas tax

Steven Rattner @SteveRattner · Jan 2
Now is exactly the time to raise the gasoline tax. @SenBobCorker should be commended for his
stance http://nyti.ms/1xnVqxa

EXCERPTS

“If something like this is going to be done, now is the time to do it,” said Bob Corker, a Republican senator, who noted that gas prices in his home state of Tennessee fell below $2 a gallon this month. Senator Corker and Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, unveiled a proposal in June to raise the gas tax by 12 cents a gallon over the next two years and then index further increases to inflation.

(snip)

Senator Corker, who has tried to appease deficit hawks by proposing to reduce other taxes in exchange for a rise in the gas tax, said his plan would probably get caught up in negotiations about broader tax reform when the Republicans take control of both houses.

“The leadership is going to want the finance committee to come up with a larger package,” he said, adding that he was open to all sorts of options except a short-term fix. “The one thing I’m going to rail against is to kick the can down the road.”
