On Thursday, Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) showed disdain for conservatives who object to massive amnesty legislation that he wants a GOP-led Congress to enact. To Corker, those who oppose amnesty because they care about the rule of law, American workers, and sovereignty and secure borders are nothing but "demagogues."
I get really frustrated with people on my side of the aisle who say that anything you do on immigration is amnesty, Corker reportedly said on Thursday. I saw it play out in these congressional races, where people were actually trying to solve the problem, and the only word people used was amnesty.
Corker, who was behind the sham amendment to give cover to Republicans voting for the Senate's massive "Gang of Eight" amnesty bill, said he hopes that "we dont let demagogues prevail, and that we finally deal with this issue and put it behind us."
Corker took issue with opponents of the Senate's "Gang of Eight" bill who pointed out that giving a pathway to citizenship to all of the country's illegal immigrants amounted to "amnesty." Corker reportedly "stressed that under the bill it would have taken 15 years to go through the process of gaining legal status, and that it also would have denied federal benefits to anybody in the country illegally for 10 years."
I dont know, is that amnesty? he scoffed.

I think these politicians (on both sides of the aisle) know illegal immigration has already changed America forever; the places with the most illegals are completely dependent on them to keep housing and public schools occupied. Neither party wants to deport them, and they are just trying to figure out a way to incorporate them into our taxation and social security systems.
In my area illegals aren’t trafficked here so much for work as they are just to prevent rapid depopulation; the whole gubmint worker bureaucracy (public school teachers, emergency responders, etc.) and retail businesses are at risk if the northeast becomes a ghost town.
When you realize that Democrats want new voters and Republicans want cheap labor, they are different paths for the same result. No Republican thinks about the future. The Dems get their voters and the Pubies will get some cheap laborers, and the American people get to pay for all of it.
Corker sucker?
There are far too many politicians focused on the welfare of illegal non-citizens at the expense of those citizens they supposedly represent.
If the GOP chooses to honor the demands of its paymasters so that they can have cheap labor, then the Party is finished.
Honoring the rule of law is an essential element of the Party philosophy. The GOPe will be breaking faith not just with its base, but with it’s founding principles.
The Party can’t survive that. There will be a split, and on the other side, the establishment will be the Whigs. Any GOPe who votes for amnesty to “put it behind us” is a fool who doesn’t understand the competing forces that will shred this Party. You can obey your paymasters or your founding principles, but not both.
“Is that amnesty?”, asks Corker. Any deal that doesn’t close the border first is amnesty.
I’m as conservative hard right as you can get. Even on this forum I think you could find a consensus on dealing with the people here - once the border is closed. We’ve been fooled on this before and won’t be fooled again. Secure the border and then we’ll talk. Until then, there is no credibility to believe that any action isn’t just amnesty by another name.
“Is that amnesty?” You’ve lost the credibility to even ask that question. Close the border. That’s the only immigration reform your base wants, and it doesn’t need a new law to enact.
Senator Corker: A no-named, unfunded candidate defeated one of your Amnesty Generals in the primary by running a one-issue campaign pointing out the sitting incumbent’s statements in support of amnesty (Cantor). Marco Rubio flushed his Presidential ambitions with your gang of eight.
Put it behind you? You’re a fool.
Read Plyler v. Doe.
The Supremes didn’t make public education mandatory.
What they did was prevent Texas from acting unilaterally. The heart of Plyler is SCOTUS’ contention that the Constitution makes immigration a federal issue. Plyler specifically states that if Congress acted to deny access to public schools, then SCOTUS would respect that decision.
In fact, SCOTUS went out of its way to assert in Plyler that neither Texas nor SCOTUS should even be a player here. SCOTUS said Plyler was decided only in lieu of Congressional action.
We don’t need an amendment. We need a Congress with a backbone.
Most of us Tennesseans are. If oath breaker lamar had not pulled the McDaniel’s card, he’d be former senator lamar, and Joe Carr would be Senator elect. TN BLUE BLOOD ELITE GOP ARE MOSTLY RINOS. They don’t want conservatives in DC.
corker 202-224-3344; lamar 202 224 4944
I’ll throw in our RINO governor to boot. 615) 741-2001 bill.haslam@tn.gov
As he favors amnesty.
Calls from out of state are welcome by Conservative Tennesseans.
You wonder how a state like Tennessee could elect people like this . . . and then you look at who we just elected in Georgia.
THEY WANT CHEAP LABOR! There has been a push for at least a decade or more to suppress wages, cut worker benefits.
I work for a fortune 50 corporation that does business in China. Most all of our manufacturing have long gone to China/Taiwan. Recently it was revealed (to my amazement), we were doing business in China through a front company. In other words, we are not able to sell American equipment in China, the government wouldn't allow it.
Think about that. We have to strip everything out of the equipment that identifies as American made, place labels from the Chinese company to do business.
So, our leadership negotiates grossly lopsided trade deals that favor a foreign entity that is technically our enemy and sells the American worker down the river. We have folks that come back from China and talk about the air/water pollution. Workers sleeping on assembly lines, jumping from windows from the constant pressure and abuses. Every now again we read of forced labor, child labor in these countries manufacturing our shoes, belts, garden equipment...you name it.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but Americans need to wake up. BOYCOTT cheap Chinese goods. Starve them or starve your family. We've seen the largest transfer of wealth in all of world history...from America to China. Corporations lobbying for more and more H1B visas to bring workers from foreign countries that are beholden for a period of time at cheaper wages. Not only shipping millions of jobs overseas, we now import cheap labor...legally as well as leaving the border wide freakin open.
Good post.
I’m frustrated with loons like corker. Enforce the laws. There doesn’t need to be a change in the laws. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE BRAIN-ADDLED RINOS?
Most of the freebies are doled out at the state level anyway.
I have two GG granddaddy’s that fought out of Haywood co. NC. Loves company, CSA.
Through these honorable men, I became a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans. Great organization with a mission to preserve Southern heritage/history from those attempting to alter the stories of those who gallantly defended the cause of Southern states rights.
And lots of other places. The Chamber of Commerce just got done buying a load of seats.
Great point.
Oh they delivered on that bill alright, and then some.
The bill did not call for a secure border, it merely threw money at "enforcement". Eventually some agents were added, but far too few. But what good is hiring more agents if there's a catch and release policy?
One of the primary problems with current immigration law is that illegal entry is classified as a misdemeanor, understating the seriousness of the crime.
Thus, one objective of "immigration reform" should be to re-classify illegal entry as a felony.
“the only word people used was amnesty.
Because that is what you are trying to do Bob.
