A new law in Saudi Arabia banning tempting eyes has become the latest example of female oppression in the country.
The law, which states that women with alluring eyes will be forced to wear a full veil, has been branded stupid by dissenters and roundly criticised on social media, aina.org reports.
Sheikh Motlab al Nabet, spokesman of the Saudi Arabian Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, said they had the right to force women to cover their face.
The men of the committee will interfere to force women to cover their eyes, especially the tempting ones, he said.
We have the right to do so.
Many commentators wondered how the word tempting would be applied. One unnamed journalist in the country suggested it referred to uncovered eyes with a nice shape and makeup.
Or even without makeup, if they are beautiful, the woman will be in trouble, they added.
Prince Naif, whose impending ascension to the Saudi throne many hoped would spell an end to this kind of draconian oppression, looks likely to be as intolerant as his father King Abdullah after suggesting that any Muslim should support the Committees new law.
The committee is supported by all sides, he said.
It should be supported because it is a pillar of Islam. If you are a Muslim, you should support the committee.
Are sunglasses OK?
I am used to the idea that any story from Saudi Arabia will be full of objectionable nonsense. But this one surprises even me.
Bummer
“Only goats may give mohammetans tempting looks and instant arousal!” shouted the Sheikh.
The women will have to wear those reflective sunglasses that cops like to wear. What a bunch of silly loons those Muslim men are and obviously, completely lacking in self-control. Who would want to belong to such a ridiculous religion?
Muslim men go sex crazy around female eyes.
They have no control over their sexual urges. Women must be segregated and invisible for them to feel numb.
How come men don’t have that problem in the West?
Are sunglasses OK?
I think ugly, dorky, nerdy sunglasses may be OK.
As long as the effect is not to inflame the passions of innocent pure men.
But the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice will have the final say.
TWB
OH NO Tempting Sunglasses
You're talking BC (birth control) frames.
This law is just an excuse for the religious police to stop any female they please. In the US, only bad cops use their authority to hit on women (or worse). In Saudi, the religious sadists are righteous about it.http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/post#help
the women aren’t much better IMO.
To enforce this the vice police have to wear tight fitting spandex pants. If a bulge appears the woman disappears.
Beat me to it.
Doesn’t surprise me at all.
