'We crossed the line', US admits to UN anti-torture body (Abu Ghraib)

GENEVA: The United States said Wednesday it did not condone torture under any circumstances, but acknowledged to a UN anti-torture watchdog it had “crossed the line” following the September 11 attacks.

“The US is proud of its record as a leader in respecting, promoting and defending human rights and the rule of law, both at home and around the world,” acting US legal advisor Mary McLeod told the 10-member UN Committee on Torture.

“But in the wake of 9/11 attacks, we regrettably did not always live up to our own values,” she said.

“We crossed the line and we take responsibility for that,” she said, quoting US President Barack Obama.

We did not cross the line.
Pulling teeth is torture.
Making someone stand on a stool with their winkie wagging is hazing. There was no permanent damage done.

I am really, really tired of Lord Fouls friggin apology tour, I would have told the U.N. “We have the right to defend ourselves anyway we see fit and if you don’t like it go pack fudge!, and while you’re at get out of America, NOW!”

Who is this idiot apologist?

1- Abu Ghraib was NOT U.S. Policy or condoned by any Command Authority. It was a low-level rogue activity.

2- Waterboarding IS NOT TORTURE! It has been a part of U.S. Military Officer training for decades. (Meaning our officers endure it).
It does not induce injury or bodily harm. It produced actionable results.

Just because someone thinks an act is torture doesn’t mean it’s torture (just like someone calling someone a racist doesn;t necessarily mean they are).

Pulling teeth out, pulling fingernails out, cutting fingers (or other body parts) off, gouging out eyes - that’s torture!

Standing against a wall naked, being in the same room as a pig, being without oxygen for a few minutes, sleep depravation - not even close to real torture!

FU!

We did what was necessary.

Personally, I’d have started my autopsy on these Korananimals, while they were still breathing and would have shot them up with epinephrine, to keep them concious, while I took off fingers and toes, particularly while I was taking huge swaths of skin of them and dousing them in lemon juice.

So, ‘if we stepped over the line’, are we or those that did or ordered the torture, now subject to war crimes prosecution? Will Obama send them to The Hague?

"Waterboarding IS NOT TORTURE!" Historically, if I recall correctly, it was considered torture and we executed people at the end of World War II for doing it to our soldiers.

There were ten prison sentences resulting from that investigation IIRC. Some of the media who were most shocked about the affair learned about it from the Army. Some of those actually acknowledged that.

We took pictures of female soldiers ridiculing jihadis.

Jihadis cut the heads off prisoners.

Which would this idiot Mary McLeod have preferred for herself?

Sgt. Tahmooressi was actually tortured for 200 days in Mexico and that filth in the White House had nothing to say about that.

Yes, AND OBAMA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for that travesty. A real president would have given them 24-hours to release him.

They should have just killed the Islamoscumbags and bypassed the “torture” thing the way ISIS and Al Qaeda does. The ‘RATS said “torture” doesn’t work anyway.
