An army of One: Ted Cruz is leading the charge against Obamacare. But no one's following.

Ted Cruz is still ready to use any means necessary to repeal Obamacare.

But even his fellow conservatives aren’t all jumping on board – a sign that the Republican repeal or bust movement is struggling while Obamacare continues to enroll millions of people with health insurance.

While Cruz wants to use a draconian budget measure to repeal Obamacare with just 51 votes in the Senate, he looks to be increasingly out on a limb. Utah Republican Mike Lee, a leader in the conservative movement, isn’t sold on the so-called budget reconciliation procedure to gut the law. Rand Paul says he’s for repeal but is hedging on exactly how to do it.

Mitch McConnell, who may enjoy a 54 vote Senate Republican majority by January, won’t commit to using the simple majority vote to kill Obamacare. And none of the Republican 2016 presidential candidates are pushing hard for the more radical Senate procedures to repeal the health care law.

Interviews with a wide range of key figures in the Senate and within the conservative movement show that while the party may be united rhetorically on repealing Obamacare, Republicans are surprisingly squishy on exactly how to do it.

The most popular response is to say, “yes, I’m for repeal,” but without saying how. Paul spokesman Brian Darling says the Kentucky senator “is committed one hundred percent to a full repeal,” but added that “using regular order or reconciliation or both is an inside the beltway fight.” And Steve Daines, the newly elected senator from Montana, said through a spokesman only that he “supports fully repealing Obamacare” and “will closely examine how to most effectively achieve that goal.”

And that doesn’t even address the moderates like Maine Republican Susan Collins, or politically vulnerable blue state Republicans who are up for re-election in 2016.

More accurately, Mitch McConnell is reneging on using the simple majority vote to kill Obamacare.

"Mitch McConnell, who may enjoy a 54 vote Senate Republican majority by January, won’t commit to using the simple majority vote to kill Obamacare."

This is why a vote for McConnell or any of his ilk is a wasted vote. This is why GOP increasingly nauseates me.

This illustrates WHY Johnny and others like me are CORRECT when we say that when the Republican is a functional Democrat, it is better to snub that Republican in the voting booth EVERY TIME.

It is utter stupid futility to vote "against" Democrats by voting FOR a Republican who will serve to NEGATE and STYMIE what could otherwise be a successful attempt to overthrow Democrat tyranny.

It only took me 30 years to figure it out.

Wallace did die, but in the long run he won because Robert the Bruce picked up the fight where Wallace left off. .

Yes! Consider the source. BUT, Boehner and McConnell both need to remember Eric Cantor. Perhaps Dave Brat will be a daily reminder.

>This Politico “news story” is a simple propaganda hit piece.

The “reality” is that Ted Cruz has SCORES of “Repeal ObamaCare Supporters” in both the Senate and House.

And they’ve got a PLAN ... that includes, BTW, of dealing with McConnell and Boehner.

“Frick and Frack” better be DAMN careful on this one.

Ted Cruz won’t be taking any prisoners.<

I wonder if this wingnut called reconciliation a 'draconian budget measure' when Harry Reid USED IT to PASS ObamaCare?

but you refuse to consider the alternative.

Pardon me, YOUR side, the one that counsels "vote Republican at any cost" and the one that I took for DECADES until 2012, is the one refusing to consider the alternative. You REFUSED to consider that your vote "against" Obama in 2012 was a vote FOR everything on Obama's agenda, from nationalized health care with on-demand abortion to gay marriage, activist leftist judges, and the environmentalist "global warming" agenda. You have REFUSED to consider the alternative -- of telling the Romneys and the McConnels of this world to go to hell.

As always, Thurston brooks no disagreement and is incapable of defending his actions. Cheshire. Hopefully people get a good look at his performances before they give him their time to listen to his drivel.

you usually lie in your first sentence, which you did again - because you cannot find I ever ever ever said vote for all Republicans at all costs.

This is why I don’t read your shit - you step in your own steaming pile within the first sentence almost always. I have no idea what you said after your first bullshit statement.

Also very rich that you claim that I and others like me refuse to consider the alternative. The HARD COLD TRUTH is that in 2012 indeed, we considered the alternative and voted accordingly so that Romney LOST, thank God. Conservatism would have been much more WEAKENED if he lost; conservatism has been, as we predicted it would be, STRENGTHENED because Romney lost.

Windflier, for example, is one of several FReepers who come to mind who CONSIDERED THE ALTERNATIVE if Romney lost, and he CORRECTLY forecasted that IF Romney lost --

1) Obama would become loathed and despised (which he has)
2) Republicans and conservatives would kick butt during the midterms (which is exactly what happened)
3) Conservatism would grow stronger (which would be MORE true if McConnell, Cochran, etc. were GONE instead of still there)

You are a fine one to lecture ME about "refusing to consider the alternatives" when it comes to refusing to participate in VOTING FOR TYRANNY, which is exactly what you DID, CEW, when you voted for Romney. You weren't voting "against" a friggin' thing except conservatism.

First of all, moron, Romney did not win, so NUTHING that is going on now has a damned thing to do with those who DID vote for Romney.

Second of all, you make a point that many of us agree with that in certain times conservatism gets weakened by squishy Republicans winning and having power. But you keep stepping on your own tiny wee wee by throwing out absurd charges and lies when characterizing those who disagree with you.

You are unable to hold an adult conversation in a triple digit IQ environment. Time for your special ed classes...bye

The offer still stands Thurston. Any time you want to debate the issues here on FR before our fellow freepers, name the time. But you wont. you are a political coward that calls names like a 2 year old and hides in a closet.

Fraud.

...” how to do it”....

Well that is the million (s) of dollar question isn’t it?

Most likely they’ll be piece-mealing the beast for years....meanwhile the public has to deal with the broken system.

Somehow, I get the feeling that in the end, and not just on one issue but many, Cruz is going to come out on top.

The Repubs want to brand Zerocare into their own version. In other words,
to change nothing but a few sentences and claim success. As usual.

Once again the Repubs want to do stupid, better.
