Yet with this implosion Obama is twice elected. I t still boggles the mind.
I mainly attribute that to black voters excited about having the first black President.
One won’t be on the ballot in 2016 so its going to be interesting to see if the Obama Coalition survives his departure from the national scene.
Not really; Romney was a terrible candidate, a Democrat in everything other than the (R), and McCain pulled for the bailout.
IOW, the stuff the Republican party has been offering has been very much along the same lines as the Democrats; they either have no vision or share the Democrat's.
Clinton and Truman were also reelected after getting their @sses badly kicked in the preceding midterm.
Cuomo Says Obamas Woes Hurt Democrats in New York Races
BUT IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE MIDTERM DEM BLOODBATH, HOUSE DEM CHAIR STEVE ISRAEL QUIT---AND SLAPPED-DOWN CUOMO... Israel suggested, Cuomo could have done more to help Democrats running in New York.
We had conversations several months ago with the governors staff about helping to organize and coordinate a campaign and I didnt see the fruition to those conversations, Israel told The New York Times.

It was instructive that abortion-worshipper Cuomo was given virtually no airtime on NY broadcast TV. One brief shot showed his live-in---Braless Chef Sandra---hanging over his shoulder, straining to gain attention for herself.
Heh---history repeats itself---that's what broke up his marriage to a Kennedy---not showing enough deference to His Majesty.
There’s nothing really boggling about it. Bush was an unpopular president, it’s very rare for one party to hold the White House for 3 terms, and Bush was the classic example of why. There was no way any GOP candidate was getting out of his shadow, so the dems were guaranteed the win in 08. For 12 you have to remember that America by and large like incumbents and usually gives presidents 2 terms, add to that a weak GOP field that eventually resulted in a nominee that nobody really liked and whose legislative record basically made it impossible for him to excite the base and it was another guaranteed win.
Meanwhile of course during midterms America generally hates the party of the sitting president. We forget that because 2 in a row (Clinton’s 2nd Bush’s 1st) the party gained, largely thanks to grossly misplayed hands by the opposition. Those were exceptions though, the rule is moderate losses for the 1st midterm and massive losses for the 2nd. It’s important to keep these trends in mind for the future, while we like to pat ourselves on the back and talk about how the dems are toast the reality is that 4 years from now it’s almost certainly going to be the GOP taking the beating, and again 4 years after that. It’s all actually very predictable, but we like to forget that this has a very set pattern.
