Why Mark Begich is Refusing to Concede

Alaska Democratic Senator Mark Begich is counting on votes that are not yet counted in the Last Frontier’s Senate race. One hundred percent of the precincts are in and Begich’s GOP challenger Dan Sullivan is currently in the lead by 8,000 votes. But, the incumbent Democrat is insisting that more rural votes could change the outcome.

ABC News has the specifics:

According to Gail Fenumiai, the director of the Alaska Division of Elections, there are 23,271 early and absentee ballots deemed eligible for counting. These are already received and reviewed as eligible. They sent out another 12,541 absentee ballots and if postmarked by November 4th, ballots can arrive legally 15 days after the election and still be properly counted. Of course, they have no idea how many of those will be returned.

Because of these yet-to-be-tallied votes, Begich's campaign manager Susanne Fleek-Green said her boss is in it for the long haul:

She said Begich would make a statement on the race only after “counts arrive from the seventy outstanding villages and when the number of outstanding absentee and questioned ballots is clear.”

Sullivan’s campaign, however, is claiming that Begich is “clinging to votes that don’t exist.” Several news outlets appear to agree with them. The Alaska Dispatch News, for instance, says Begich faces “daunting math” to overcome the deficit and the Alaska Public Radio Network asserted the incumbent’s decision to stay in the race is based on an “implausible hypothetical resurgence.”

Nevertheless, Begich doesn’t seem to be backing down. This race may not be called for weeks.

They’ll probably find a voting machine in a closet somewhere that has uncounted votes, or about 20,000 uncounted “ballots” in the trunk of a car belonging to a poll worker.

Happens all the time....

....And how difficult is it to REALLY duplicate a post mark on an envelope. I’d say it could be EASILY done. It’s just a stamp mark. lol

Is it possible for a post mark to be forged or tampered with?

How does a post mark work?

We live on the Upper Yukon, 4 miles from the border. Dems sent teams into almost every village, door to door rousing the Indians who often don't vote, got them to vote early. Promises & promises of goodies to come if Begich wins, no joke. Same thing happened with Lisa's write in a couple years back and she won. The way things work, and Indians understand the filthy game too. Dems really got the Native vote out 3 weeks before the election. All my Indian friends up and down the Yukon and in Fairbanks filled me. They are expecting a windfall of spending in the villages too. They said the Natives are all voting for Begich. I got 3 of my Indian buddies to vote Repub after talking about gun control enough.

What bothers me is the Repubs didn't give a hoot about rural areas all the while for 3 weeks, I got 2-3 calls a night telling me awful stories about Sullivan. Dems were really calling everybody out in the sticks. Indians stick together and most of them voted for Begich, bad part is 50% of them never vote and their tribal leaders made sure their ballots were filled out this year.

It will be close, but me thinks the REpubs have it and more importantly they think so too; they pretty much precisely have a good idea how many people voted and which way it should go, no joke.

What bothers me is I got maybe 3 calls from Repubs before election, got hundred calls from those dirty Dems. If Repubs lose this one, it's their own fault for not investing in early voting like the dems did. I even tried calling repub headquarters 2 weeks before election to mention to them what was going on and they said they knew all about it.

Actually, a couple cases of cheap vodka to each village would have reversed the dems hard work, but then the dems probably had booze with them too, ha ha.

No, unfortunately not. See #48. Lisa Murkowski won her write-in vote with the help of Eskimo votes.

I’m not saying anything against the Eskimos as such. But when you’ve got one side offering lots of gravy, and the other side stupidly ignoring them, it’s hard to resist.

Alaska Senate - 100.00% reporting

Dan Sullivan 48.96% Republican 110,203

Mark Begich 45.34% Democrat 102,054

Looks like a real stretch for Begich to pull this off, unless he pulls a Franken at which time 1000 lawyers show up. . or has Priebus already sent them? Hope so.

Don Young, Republican of Alaska, is the longest serving member of congress. He has to run a statewide election every two years. One would think Sullivan would get the same votes from the villages that Young got.

“Alaska is a Republican state, so it will be much harder for RATS to steal this election. Also, Alaska has boroughs, not counties”

Not so sure about that, Alaska just passed recreational marijuana. And the Governor just elected has no Party Affiliation beating the Republican. SOunds like the citizens are on a a Losertarian bender.

8000 votes is an awfully big fraud hurdle, especially in a sparsely populated state. I’m not saying they won’t try. I’m saying that I doubt they’re that talented. This isn’t an episode of “Scandal.”
