Saira has caused quite a storm in the media! She shocked everyone, when at just 18, she was elected to represent her district in the West Virginia House of Delegates. Here are five things to know about the youngest lawmaker in America!

Saira Blair may be 18, but she’s already proven to be the strongest candidate to represent a small district in West Virginia. The young Republican, who did most of her campaigning out of her college dorm room, defeated 44-year-old attorney Layne Diehl in a landslide victory on Nov. 4. Here are five fascinating facts about Saira!

Saira Blair: America’s Youngest Lawmaker — 5 Things About Her

1. Saira Blair: The Economics Student

Before being elected a state delegate, Saira was just your average college student! Saira is a freshman at West Virginia University, studying economics, with the hope of becoming a financial planner.

She is currently putting her dreams on hold after this semester, deciding to defer her spring semester in order to attend the legislature’s 60-day session. She will make up classes in the summer and fall, according to The Wall Street Journal.

2. Saira Blair Previously Defeated 66-year-old Republican

Believe it or not, this was not Saira’s first big political win.In May, she defeated 66-year-old Republican Larry Kump in a primary election. She was 17 years old at the time. Clearly, this girl is not afraid of anything!

3. Saira Blair’s Father Is A U.S. Senator

Saira has political blood running deep in her family! Her father, U.S. Senator Craig Blair, is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate.

4. Saira Blair Contributed $4,000 To Her Campaign

Saira’s father may be a U.S. Senator, but Saira wanted to be respected on her own! The young lawmaker contributed reportedly $4,000 to her own campaign to show she was “serious.”

“Candidates should have some skin in the game,”Saira said in an interview. “I wanted voters to know I was serious.”

5. Saira Blair Aims To Reduce Business Taxes

As part of her campaign, Saira pledged to work to reduce certain taxes on businesses. She also supports antiabortion and pro-gun positions.

We’re so impressed by Saira’s hard work and ability to take a on a heavy leadership role at such a young age! Can you imagine yourself making laws at age 18?!

Props to Ms. Blair, but the article would be better if the reporter knew the difference between a state senator and a US Senator.

She is so sweet. I wish her the best. I hope she will soon be tough enough to weather the nasty disrespect the left will soon throw at her. Maybe she already is tough. This will happen, and probably the worst offenders will be young girls about her age, accusing her of straying from the plantation.

Some young people do know who they are and what they can do at that age. Her parents did not stop her, but offered support. Good for Saira! I guess it is pronounced the same as Sara.

I heard this young, intelligent, informed true conservative interviewed by Fox News and she is OUTSTANDING.

By the way, at the linked site is a poll if you want to vote on it:

“What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Saira is a powerful role model to women of the Millennial generation?”

Thank you for voting!

Yes 87.4%
No 12.6%

Her father is not “US Senator”. He does not serve in the US Senate in Washington DC. He is a West Virginia Senator, elected to the state Senate in Charleston.
These Hollywood reporters are so ignorant of government.

You have helped me. I never gave it a thought that there was a distinction. I learned something new today. I don’t know, seems like that system would lead to redundancy of expenditures.

????

There are two different functions, two different government levels.

One for the US with the senators originally supposed to represent their STATE’S interests and be appointed by the state legislators and governors to the US NATIONAL government; and the second the STATE government. Normally the state governments also have two bodies as well.

Nothing duplicate about it all.

Go to any military installation in the United States (or US military overseas) ... you'll see lots of young men and women taking on heavy leadership roles ... and making foreign policy.

Can you imagine a pub with "Hollywood" in the name saying approving things about a conservative politician?

Her daddy is a state senator. She already has the appropriate education, I think.

I believe that the ideal public representative should come from the private sector, married, and with children.

With that criteria being said, I am encouraged by Saira Blair’s determination, conviction, and maturity. If only our elder statesmen were so well-poised, dignified, and understood the meaning of truly serving their constituents.

Best wishes, Saira, and congratulations.

God Bless You

About ten years ago we had an 18-year-old win the election for the Ohio House. After his first term, he wrote a book about his experiences, titled "Kid in the House." It was quite interesting. After another term, he left politics and is now a practicing attorney.
