Israelis look for 'anyone but Bibi'
Al-Monitor ^ | November 4, 2014 | Ben Caspit

Public opinion polls just conducted in Israel indicate a steep drop in the popularity of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It may be a temporary process, it may be a transient phase, but as of this very moment the numbers do not lie and reflect a clear trend. Support for Netanyahu is in steep decline.

The results of two surveys publicized in Israel, one for the “HaMate” program on Israeli TV Channel 10 and the other for the Knesset TV Channel (“Panels”), point to an amazing fact: more than 60% of the Israeli public does not want Netanyahu to serve another term as prime minister. Almost two-thirds of the Israeli electorate have had enough of Netanyahu. Netanyahu’s key strong point is rooted in the popular question asked in Israeli polls: The respondents are asked regarding the suitability of various candidates for the premiership role. Until recently, Netanyahu led on this question with a tremendous gap over his competitors. His score ranged around 45-50%, while his competitors were in single digits. But in the last poll by the Knesset channel on Oct. 29, the percentage of “suitable for the position” voters dropped drastically to only 27% (in comparison, Netanyahu garnered 48% after the Protective Edge campaign). The man lost half of his support within a few weeks.

And the tidings aren’t encouraging for the premier regarding the number of Knesset seats that Netanyahu’s Likud Party is likely to receive: At the moment, the Likud would win only 21 seats. In addition, the Likud historically tends to lose around four additional seats in the course of the Knesset election campaign (due to the problematic primaries process and an anti-Netanyahu campaign).

Wasn’t he at high levels of popularity during the recent Gaza problems? What has happened since then to change?

Actually, no. That is when the polls started to show his support collapsing.

Consider the source. I dont’ follow Israeli politics but I do like it when it meshes well with U.S policy. U.S policy has unfortunately strayed off the reservation with this administration.

I have no knowledge of the source but first questions I would ask is what are it’s known biases ... find out if it’s agiprop from within or without.

Could be that he failed to complete the task in Gaza and everyone knows it. Many also know that as a result of that failure, Hamas is rebuilding its terror tunnels and rearming.

Could also be that there is a rise in the Israeli suicidal impulse ...

There are interests within Israel and at the US Dept. of State and in the White House that will do ANYTHING to smear Netanyahu out of power.

While it may be true that many Israelis are “tired” of Bibi, there is no viable alternative on the horizon.

Don't forget that Israelis left no stone unturned to accommodate both the warring Paleostinians and American administrations since 1993 by voting, Left, Center and then, out of fatigue, the Right-wing Likud.

The Israelis “compromised” (just as Mad Albright asked them to do) their arses off and got death and mayhem in return.

So it looks like the Right-wing Camps will be dominate for quite some time to come, no matter what President Obama or a terrified (of Islam) Europe thinks or wants. Damn it, Israel is a Democracy after all!

The Israelis are out of their minds; they want to get rid of the one man in power who has successfully protected his people and nation from their enemies who surround them and want to destroy Israel and kill them all!

Why is it that Jewish folks can’t learn from the past. They are surrounded by enemies and their biggest ally is on a 8 year hate Israel hiatus, with 2 more years to go.

If you replace the word Jewish with the word American, is the answer any different?

Nothing. It’s an agitprop piece. The source:

“Al-Monitor brings together top journalists from across the Middle East. Including Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Turkey. Plus, we have daily translations from 20 major news organizations in the region.” [IOW, Iran, Qatar, the Gulf states]

Bibi has always been the ‘lesser evil’ choice to most Israelis. Elections don’t ever result in ‘none of the above’. Israeli politics is nearly incomprehensible.

‘Al-Monitor’? May as well be Al-Reuters.

Any newspaper with a prefix “Al” is Arabic. Nonetheless, Israelis are tired of ONLY them doing “Painful compromises for peace” as Mad Albright insisted they do. There is no prid quo pro here for ANYTHING the Israelis do. The Paleostinians continue to float in their own feces while crying that the Israelis are responsible for their plight.

Netanyahu is still popular and was even more so at the outset of the “Protective Edge” campaign in Gaza last summer - he should not have dragged it out to 30 days, that's all. He should have pummeled them on the first day not wait for the last 72 hours to knock down tall buildings. For that, he is criticized.
