President Barack Obama came out swinging on Wednesday just 14 hours after a Republican wave swept over the U.S. Congress in an election that largely repudiated his policies.
'Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign,' he said, threatening to dust off a veto pen that he has used only twice in nearly six years. And he hinted at executive orders that will enrage conservatives. 'I'm pretty sure I'll take some actions that some in Congress will not like,' he said. 'That's natural. That's how Democracy works.'
Much of reporters' tussling with the president focused on executive orders related to immigration reform what some tea party Republicans call an 'amnesty' which he plans to implement this year.
He acknowledged that the GOP won Tuesday's elections, but framed the results as a mandate for Republicans to work with him, instead of the other way around. 'Obviously the Republicans had a good night,' he said.
But he said he would principally work with them 'if there are ideas that the Republicans have that I am confident will make things better for ordinary Americans.'
'I want to just see what works,' he said. 'The American people sent a message,' he claimed, 'one that they've sent for several elections now.'
'They expect the people they elect to work as hard as they do. They expect us to focus on their ambitions, and not ours.'
He then rattled off a list of economic indicators that he said buttressed his case that Republicans should accept his point of view.
'More Americans are working. Unemployment has come down,' he claimed, glossing over the part-time employment shift that the Obamacare law's employer mandate has ushered in.

We won a battle. The war remains to be fought. Evil never rests or gives up. Defeat it today and you will have to defeat it tomorrow. The Democrat Party is Satan’s child.
If he starts doing unilateral actions via executive orders, there are red-state democrats who would be under pressure on impeachment. I’m not saying it would happen, but I think Obama underestimates the amount of public backlash there will be if he issues executive amnesty.
If we were, neither the president nor scotus could make or change the laws.
It’s a beautiful day in the U. S. A.!
Obama was a part-time lecturer.
POTUS said previously that he doesn’t want to be President without the Senate.
Let’s reach across the aisle and grant him that wish.
YOU LIE!!!
Just tell Obama it ‘stuff it’. You lost.
List of United States presidential vetoes
And with Obama guard dog Reid now out of the way, I hope that Republican leadership is strong enough to once again exercise those powers against Constitution-ignoring Obama.
I don’t think the reason for the democrats defeat has sunk in yet.
‘That’s natural. That’s how Democracy works.’
What a lying load of crap.
Translated Obama is saying he will bypass Congress and rule like a dictator in whatever matter he pleases to. To Obama neither the laws on the books or the Constitution are any constraint on him doing whatever he wants.
“Democracy” & Obama are two words in direct opposition to each other.
think immediate injunctions
Unemployment has come down because people have either given up looking for work, or are working two or three jobs just to pay their “AFFORDABLE”, mandated health insurance!
Republicans were given the keys this year, because the American public realized that they should NEVER have let you keep them two years ago!
I’m gonna huff and puff!
Scared yet.
Okay, I’ll huff and puff again.
Example: How will the budgeting stop amnesty for the millions that will cross the border upon hearing they get a home free card?
STF up you imposter. You are not eligible to be president. You would not have passed a security check. You do whatever the hell you want, ignoring all US laws. You have used the irs and the fbi to harass Republicans and other normal people.
And he hinted at executive orders that will enrage conservatives.
**********
Since there are hardly any conservatives in the GOP I guess he won’t be enraging many people.
