After failing to mention the upcoming midterm election a single time since he took over the anchor desk of ABC's World News Tonight on September 1, on Monday, David Muir finally informed viewers that a political contest with "enormous" stakes was just days away: "The countdown is on, this evening, to the midterm elections tonight. Your voice, your vote. Just eight days to go before this election. The stakes? Enormous. President Obama, already battling with a Republican House, will he soon face a Republican Senate?"
It had been 137 days since the ABC evening newscast had made any mention of the 2014 midterms. The last story on the campaign occurred on June 11, when Muir coincidentally filling in for then-World News anchor Diane Sawyer reported on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor losing his Virginia congressional primary to candidate Dave Brat.
From that date until Monday, World News and World News Tonight (renamed on September 1) were completely silent on the midterms.
In stunning contrast to the single election story the evening show ran from September 1 to October 27 in 2014, during that same time period in 2006, ABC's World News Tonight provided 51 midterm stories. That included 27 full reports on the topic and 24 reports mentioning the campaign.
From September 1 through October 27, 2014, the Big Three network evening newscasts combined have only provided 35 midterm election stories, 24 full reports and 11 stories mentioning the campaign. During that same time in 2006, the same broadcasts offered 209 election stories (123 full reports, 86 mentions/briefs).

Does it have something to do with Alcohol?
In 2006, they could smell a Democratic win over the hill.
Good to know in 2014, they think the mid-term is overhyped.
But that’s ABC.
It's a type of political enema.
Remember, it isn’t about Americans or America, it’s all about Obama.
Poor guy. It's so tough with those adversaries in the House led by Old Blood & Guts Boehner.
They should ask Dave about Maureen Greene.
You know....about 2002 or so.
Wow! The midterms are kind of a big deal not to mention.
So much for a “free press” eh?
If this clown fails to mention this, but no one is watching the fool anyway, did he really fail to mention it?
This is good. Causal or infrequent voters generally vote Dem. These are the LIVs that make their voting decision on the basis of a candidates superficial attributes such as appearance, mannerisms, perceived popularity, and fashion sense. ABC viewers are generally uninformed, so they are more likely to be Dem voters.
Never even heard of David Muir before.
Wow! The midterms are kind of a big deal not to mention.
They’re either ......
(1) incompetent and that bad at reporting the news
or
(2) trying to influence the process.
They squashed mention of the Annette Teijeiro campaign here in Las Vegas to. I hate the media.
Americas Barack Channel.
He's nauseating to watch. He's not capable of a single critical independent thought.
He covers small news such as consumer reports, Hollywood, celebrity tweets, internet trends and high school science projects.
Same stuff that Diane Sawyer covered.
That's ABC World News Tonight and he fits in there well.
It was “ABC World News Tonight” for as long as I can remember, so since I stopped watching TV news they removed the word “Tonight” and the added it back?
He’s nauseating to watch.
Good cause I don’t plan to watch it. I haven’t watched network news in almost 20 years.
I probably haven’t had the TV on ABC for over an hour over the last year. They could cancel the network and I wouldn’t even know it.
All Barack Channel
Always Barack Channel
