Evangelical Catholic bishop is 'personally sure' Brittany Maynard is in heaven (Oregon suicide)

While many religious leaders might condemn 29-year-old Brittany Maynard's decision to end her own life under Oregon's Death With Dignity Act, the bishop of the Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest is "spiritually and personally sure" she was "received into God's loving hands." . . . .

The bishop wasn't making a "blanket endorsement" of physician-assisted suicide, said William Morton, a spokesperson for the Evangelical Catholic Church's Northwest region.

It doesn't matter if Maynard was a Christian or not, Morton said, because the bishop doesn't think belief in God is a requirement for entry into heaven.

"God is not worried about what church a person belongs to," Morton said. "God's love is unconditional."

Wow. With Catholic teaching like, that, why go to any church?

Sounds like he’s the god of his own little made-up religion.

So why is evangelical in the title of what he is? No evangelism needed when God loves us unconditionally and not even belief in God is a requirement for entry into heaven.

Unbelievable.
Jesus’ words in John 6:40:

Ths is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.

Not real Catholics. Not in communion with the Pope of Rome. Not Eastern Orthodox, either.

See their FAQ page here.

Just another goofy liberal "believe whatever makes you happy" denomination.

Is the “Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest” affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church?

“The Evangelical Catholic Church has about 5,000 members worldwide”

Helps to read the article.

Well, this is not Roman Catholic teaching. Please note that this is not the Roman Catholic Church that most people think of (in union with the Pope in Rome, etc...). This is a Church that simply calls itself "Evangelical Catholic Church", whatever THAT is. However, they are not affiliated with the actual Roman Catholic Church, who would take great exception to what this guy said. It seems they chose the name of their church deliberately - probably in an attempt to confuse people and make them think they are Roman Catholic. Who knows??

Glad is so sure. Maybe he needs to recheck to see if she actually accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. If she didn’t, don’t care how many hail Mary’s she said, she ain’t there.

Only by their attempts to steal legitimacy from the Roman Catholics by using their name and jargon. From a quick web search it looks like they are a feel good type offshoot of the Lutherans.

This is neither Roman nor Byzantine Catholic. This is a random group that claims Catholic in thier title. It’s like my loopy aunt who claims her brand of Christianity is the true brand, because the name of her church is the Church of Christ. You know, because the name equals instant salvation.

This is not the Church, this is some hippy dippy movement that slapped Catholic in thier name. Also, after reading her final words, I don’t think Brittany was even Christian. Hail Marys would do her no good.

He isn’t a good Catholic because suicide is the one unforgivable sin.

...they are a feel good type offshoot of the Lutherans.

Now that's hurtful.

They are an offshoot of the ELCA, which bears about as much in common with Lutheranism as it does with Catholicism.

"..the bishop doesn't think belief in God is a requirement for entry into heaven."
What does he think Heaven is, then? SMH......If that isn't evil, I don't know what is.
