THE FAIR TAX WOULD BE THE BIGGEST TRANSFER OF POWER FROM DC BACK TO THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY'S HISTORY
A flat tax is still an income tax, and would leave the IRS in place.
It punishes productivity, and fails to capture any revenue from the illegal aliens and illegal activities like drugs and prostitution because most of them don't report their income, but they buy stuff, so with the Fair Tax, they would start paying a share.
The IRS tried to take out the Tea Party, it would be sweet vengeance for the Tea Party to take out the IRS.
The IRS terrorizes Americans with the threat and expense of an audit.
And now we are supposed to trust this monstrous agency with our lives and health?
Say no to terrorism - abolish the IRS.
Every discussion should point out that now is the time for the Fair Tax!!
The “prebate” would be a gold mine for politicians to manipulate to give “benefits” to this group and that. Flat tax of +-% would work except for the probability that, coupled with massive business deregulation, it would raise ever more revenue for the government as the economy burgeons as never before.
9% from the first dollar of income to the last. No deductions. No exemptions. No withholding. Option to pay tazes monthly but everyone has to write that check. And last of all, no business taxes or capital gains taxes. Business taxes are actually increased income taxes on personal income as they are part of the cost of doing business and therefore raise the prices of goods and services to the consumer/ultimate taxpayer.

“The point of the Fairy tax is for businesses to never pay taxes again, and those with a business tax ID number would pay very little either.
Only those that draw a paycheck would pay taxes, and those with money in the bank would be taxed twice.
I think Bortz dreamed this up while he was stoned on something.”
Wrong - Boortz didn’t dream it up at all.
About Americans For Fair Taxation (FairTax.org):
Americans For Fair Taxation® (AFFT) was founded in 1995, by three Houston entrepreneurs.
It is a nonpartisan 501(c)(4) grassroots organization solely dedicated to replacing the current income tax code with a national retail-level consumption tax.
AFFT began as a research organization. Extensive polling and focus group studies were commissioned with a financially, ethnically and politically diverse group of taxpayers. The results of these studies led to a nonpartisan team of economists who developed the FairTax® plan.
Today, AFFT is the largest tax reform organization in the nation. We have a clearly defined
mission and vision for the American people:
MISSION: Pass the FairTax®
VISION: A reinvigorated U.S. economy with millions of new, well paying jobs under a federal tax system that:
Encourages a culture of savings and capital formation
Provides adequate funding for current and future national spending priorities
Restores the freedom, dignity and privacy of the taxpayer and,
Positions the U.S. to compete globally
The AFFT board of directors is an all-volunteer board comprised of working and retired taxpayers from all walks of life. Directors are elected by local FairTax supporters in their home state.
Ping.
Couple a flat tax with repeal of the civil service laws and maybe freedom would begin to make a comeback.
“Americans love their chains and beg for the bridle.”
Some seem to - maybe some are IRS agents.
WHEN THE FAIR TAX PUTS THE IRS AGENTS OUT OF WORK - SEND THEM TO THE BORDER - THEY’RE ALREADY TRAINED TO BE MEAN
“The IRS has become a thug, left wing unionized bunch of criminals. Abolish the IRS!
Its about a union: the National Treasury Employees Union. The NTEU. A left-wing union representing 150,000 employees in 31 separate government agencies, including the IRS. A union that not only endorsed President Obama for election and re-election, but a union whose current president, Colleen Kelly, was a 14-year IRS agent and now is both union president and Obama administration appointee “
Thanks, can’t be repeated often enough!!
I know what it is, we used to have the Fairy tax wars here every few months. The entire mess has been hashed and rehashed.
All the flaws were exposed. It doesn’t get rid of the income tax, or the IRS. It just changes the name from the IRS to the Fairy-tax collection bureau, or some such nonsense.
Nobody's denying that.
Abolish the IRS!
A flat-rate, no credit, no write-off/deduction, no exemption, no exception system would allow that.
They already are taxed, priced into those very staples you mention. An NRST just makes that tax explicit instead of hidden.
Yes. But the big money will not even consider it.
A flat-rate income tax (w/ no credits, exemptions, write-offs, or deductions) would allow us to abolish the IRS.
It's not the tax on income that's the problem, it's the complexities and loopholes used to punish/reward — eliminate the possibility of those and you eliminate their abuse, it's that simple.
(Withholdings though is another matter; it is either theft or forcing the employer to commit fraud [as the wages the employee receives are less than the agreed upon amount].)
There will always be demagogues, and there will always be envious idiots who will support soaking the rich.
This is true, and this is why a flat-rate w/ no wriggle-room is the best system.
Well all I know is that a couple of weeks ago Ted Cruz came out with a tax plan for two rates; 15% and 35%. That was for an income tax. I have never heard him talk about the Fair Tax.
That's precisely the problem with it: it would change things without addressing the underlying issues.
(And those issues are the complexity and freedom of the enforcement agency to interpret
the laws/regulations.)
How about a plan that does not continue to pay rebates to those who paid no taxes?
*nod* — Fully agreed, which is why I support a flat-tax w/ no exceptions/exemptions/write-offs/deductions/credits.
It's the sales tax agency that already exists in almost every state. The federal agency would be dealing with the state agencies, not directly with taxpayers.
Incorrect. Any form of an income tax still means defining what income is, and putting in the means to track and report such income. The tax code is just the details, the really onerous part of the IRS is the necessity to report, track, and audit income. A flat tax doesn't change that.
They argue of the best means of their demise.
