Maine Could Elect The Country's First Gay Governor But LGBT Activists Are Split Democrat Mike Michaud is in a neck-and-neck race with incumbent Paul LePage but he persistently voted against gay rights legislation before coming out
Jon Swaine 1 November 2014
The man who may soon be the first openly gay person elected as a governor in the US sat silently in Maines house of representatives as an older colleague embarked on a homophobic tirade against the anti-discrimination proposal that they were considering.
I dont see them as gay because they never smile, they have got that withdrawn look, J Robert Carrier, a Democrat from Westbrook, told the chamber in Augusta in May 1983, as a 28-year-old Mike Michaud looked on. I feel sorry for those people, said Carrier.
Urging fellow lawmakers to vote against a bill that would have outlawed discrimination against Maines estimated 100,000 gay citizens for housing or jobs, Carrier said that just as if you want to be a drunk, if you want to be a liar, if you want to be a thief, if you want to be a crook, the solution to homosexuality was self-discipline.

LePage isn’t gay?
Yeah, that's one of the problems, now isn't it?
Unnngh!
I have a difficult time appreciating the election of a person who can’t figure out what the purpose of his weener is.
Seems like a BIG RED FLAG to me.
Charlie Christ???
Maine....Let’s see....Who do we know that lives in Maine?
No he is not. But on Thursday, the independent candidate
Cutler, in essence said he could not win and told his supporters to vote their conscience. He is still campaigning but both Angus King and his wife switched from supporting Cutler to Michaud, the Democrat.
Cutler probably took more votes from Michaud than from LaPage so it is going to be a very close race. It will all depend on turn over. I will be at a busy intersection for a couple of hours with a LaPage sign. Early last week LaPage had a 10 point lead in a three way race. I am not as optimistic as I was.
The FIRST??? Somebody forget that New Jersey nutcase who was cruising men’s rooms on the Interstate while his wife was in the hospital having a for-show-baby.
Why has LaPage blown his 10-point lead? Tsunami of gay money?
I wouldn’t say that lobsters are gay.
The gay marriage referendum in 2012 brought huge sums of money and an outpouring of gay voters and supporters. It cost the Republican both state house.
Paul LaPage seems to be doing everything right. But Cutler dropping out on Thursday with net Michaud more votes than LaPage. However, RCP still shows Maine going for LaPage.
Different polls have different internals and different results.
The poll in the liberal Portland newspaper last Sunday had conservative Republican Paul LePage ahead 10 points in a three-way race.
The same poll had Le Page ahead by 7 points in a 2-way race between LePage and Michaud.
well thats as important as the first black president or what we here now “lets make history again we need the first women president” It’s more important to these idiots what you are instead of who you are. This is why we are in deep sh##
Technically, should Michaud be elected, he would be the 1st open homosexual governor elected. Gov. Jim McGreevy (D-NJ) was "outed" during his watch between 2002-04. He had sired 2 children by 2 different female wives from whom he is now divorced.
Bless you for getting out there and trying to do what you can do to keep LaPage.
You should spell his name correctly “LePage”, not “LaPage”
Sheesh.
I really don’t want to think about LGBT’s split.
Yeah, that would work out well. Look what the sodomite mayor of Houston is trying to do to Christian pastors. Imagine what a sodomite governor would get away with.
