LEXINGTON Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton struck a populist tone in her final campaign pitch for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes Saturday, stumping twice for Grimes days after a new poll shows her trailing U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Regardless of survey results that have her 5 points behind the five-term incumbent, Clinton, Grimes and a cadre of Democratic politicians urged a crowd of about 1,400 enthusiastic supporters at Transylvania Universitys Haggin Auditorium to volunteer and push Grimes toward an Election Day victory in the face of an all-out advertising blitz.
Republicans and outside groups supporting McConnell, the Senates Republican leader, have resorted to fear-based tactics to keep voters from the polls on Tuesday, said Clinton, a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2016. Grimes, too, alluded to more than $50 million in attack ads that have aired against her and, referencing a lawsuit she filed in Franklin Circuit Court Friday, said her opponent has resorted to scaring voters in eastern Kentucky counties through election violation notice mailers assaulting Grimes for fraudulent hits against McConnell.
Fear is the last resort of those who have run out of ideas and run out of hope, and fear is the go-to strategy for the other side, Clinton, who appeared in Lexington following a similar rally in northern Kentucky, said in her 23-minute speech.
Ive seen it time and time again, and were seeing it here in this race just throw as much mud up against the wall and through the TV screens and through the radio airwaves and the direct mail and any other way you can distribute it and just hope enough of it sticks so that you dont have to accountable to the people in a way that you should be.

Populism in Alinskyville and mediaspeak is code for dreary old leftism.
“Get out to those cemeteries - there’s plenty of people there to sign up”
Transylvania University?
Perfect venue for an old bat like Hillary
Cant stand Mitch and desipe Grimy Grimes
But im north of the Ohio and its out of my hands.
Do your worst, Kentucky.
Getting out the admirers of lying, worthless, incompetent democrats.
Mrs. Slick Willie has been spending a lot of time with Grimes. I wonder if she’s “hittin’ it”.
Just checked to see what the Transylvania University mascot is. It’s the Pioneers. I was expecting something like the Vampires.
Not exactly filling stadiums is she?
Some ad writer should compile a montage of Hillary stumping for all the losers in this election and keep stamping “LOSER” over the candidates’ pictures as they flash by, for the 2016 Republican nominee and the voice over could say something like: “Hillary backed each of these losing candidates in the 2014 election. Hillary’s just a loser, but America has been winning with this Republican Congress and our country is turning around. We are NOT ready to go back to the days of 0bama. We are NOT ready for Hillary”.
Hillary Clinton....perfecting the art of projection since 1972.
Transylvania was the first college West of the Allegheny mountains. First in the state of KY. Alma mater to Jefferson Davis, Stephen F. Austin, and others. Henry Clay was a law professor there. It has produced a fair number of governors/senators, and a couple VPs and SCOTUS Justices.
the thing is/relevant info,; it's the fear of the (ever shrinking) middle class...
which sees it's value of their resources depleted and their traditional mores are mocked..
I knew it was old but didn’t know all of that. I guess it is old enough to weather the disgrace of having allowed Hillary on campus. When they chose the name of the college, “Transylvania” probably didn’t have the associations in the popular mind that it has now.
Say, if Grimes manages to win but the GOP takes the Senate, who would be Majority Leader?
