In comments sure to cascade into regional races across the South, embattled Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) told NBC's Chuck Todd on Thursday that Southern racism is to blame for President Barack Obama's unpopularity.
"Why does President Obama have a hard time in Louisiana?" asked Todd.
Let me be very, very honest with you," said Landrieu. "The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans. It's been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as a leader."
Landrieu added: It has not always been a good place for women, to be able to present ourselves. Its more of a conservative place. So weve had to work a little bit harder on that. But, you know, the people trust me, I believe. Really, they do.

Wow, and I thought Windy’s empty wheelchair ad was the biggest gaffe of the season. This is going to be good!!!
Calling your entire constituency racist. Now that is a winning strategy. /s
Why not? racism and global warming, now called climate change are the cause of everything.
Put a stinky pantsuit on her and she’s a Hillary clone.
Excuse me..I meant 2/3 of her constituency.
Republicans have a powerful messenger here for those enslaved by their government.

May Sen. Landrieu go down to a deserved defeat as our black, conservative, Christian Senator Tim Scott coasts to victory. This from South Carolina.
Everything is racism to Dems if you are AGAINST their policies.
That dead horse is just a pile of goo.
Goodbye Mary.....this is your last death chant before LA tosses you out.
Landrieu is an embarrassment to coonasses.
bkmk
Don’t forget the anti-lynching legislation of the 1930s that Democrats opposed, or that blacks were barred from membership in the Texas Democrat party as recently as 1940.
“It has not always been a good place for women, “
So how did you get elected then?
Moron.
I wouldn’t count her out until the last vote is counted in the Orleans parish cemetaries.
The south Louisiana Dem fraud machine is brazen and very very good at what they do.
I hope you’re wrong—here in GA we’re seeing all kinds of voter fraud. I’m convinced “early voting” is rigged.
How does this tool explain Obama’s unpopularity across other areas of the country? Could it be, could it possibly be, his pathetic, anti-American agenda? His relentless lying? His total incompetence?
But, having lived in Louisiana for so many years and watching so many close elections decided by Orleans parish -- which always reports last, long after all other parishes -- with just enough votes to pull out a Dem win, I've learned to never count the Dem candidate out until the votes have been counted and recounted.
A cynical observer would conclude that the Dem operatives in Orleans see how many votes their candidate needs to win and manages to find them just as the poles close. It's uncanny.
You are not the only one. Why else would the Democrats fight for it so hard.
