Hill panic: 300-600 Senate Dem staffers would be fired in GOP win
Washington Examiner ^ | October 30, 2014 | Paul Bedard

With projections of a GOP win growing daily, nervousness in Senate committee offices has turned to panic as an army of Democratic staffers braces to be fired, replaced by a Republican majority and their aides.

The spoils of political war? Estimates are that 300-600 Democratic committee and personal staff jobs would be on the chopping block if the Republicans pull off the expected victory.

“There will be a mass exodus of Senate Democrat staff from committees,” said one insider.

And Republicans will get to hire hundreds more aides. A loss on Tuesday that keeps the Democrats in charge of the Senate will cost no GOP jobs, other than those working for retiring lawmakers.

Under a Senate deal cut by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the funding and staff breakdown on committees is about 60 percent for the majority, and 40 percent for the minority. It had been two-thirds majority, one-third minority, but the GOP cut the deal in order to keep their minimum funding at 40 percent.

Also getting hit would be the offices of Reid and other Democratic leaders.

For Democratic staffers, the potential layoffs couldn’t come at a worse time. According to officials, some will find jobs in the Obama administration, but those openings are few and will last only two years. And Hillary Clinton’s team is already loaded up with long-time aides, leaving few policy jobs for outsiders.

"There will be nowhere in the downtown private sector to go. Maybe 10 percent can find a slot in the Obama administration. It will be ugly," said a former White House aide now working on K Street.

That's because many lobbying firms are full-up with Democrats.

And there are already a sizable number of Democratic staffers already looking for work since their bosses are retiring.

“It could be a lot of individuals. And that’s not even counting all the people looking for work now with a retirement coming up,” said a key Senate Democratic staffer.

Doubtful. Losing senators and representatives will try to use what political poser they have left to put top aides in government jobs where they can continue to work at the destruction of America through the bureaucracies.

Maybe Obola will sign an executive order preventing their termination.
I didn't recall any concern for my company when Obola took office and certain
industries took a nose dive because of his policies in the first six months.

They only give a damn about their own, Period. "Those other people" in
the private sector serve him no purpose for transforming the USA into
a 3rd world economy.

Boo hoo.

These people are a bunch of socialist zealots, a lot of them are aiding and abetting the Democrat reps in committing criminal acts.

Millions of American’s lives are being ruined by their masters. I should give a damn about 600 lefties no longer allowed to suckle on the public teat?

Every political staffer knows this is the nature of the game. It's always a shock when it happens, but usually people look back five years later and consider it a learning experience. And more often than not, they're better off having been forced to make a change, with the opportunity to redirect a career when they are older, wiser, more realistic about the feet of clay of politicians, and more realistic about themselves.

It's never fun to lose a job, but "my boss got beaten for reelection" is never hard to explain in an interview.

Yes, been there, done that.

We need a chief executive that has the balls to fire every single executive branch bureaucrat and ban them from future hire in the branch.

Then appoint a cabinet member or committee to re-fill the necessary positions.

Fuggedaboudit. Those “staffers” will be picked up by the new legislators who are ignorant of the way things are done in D.C. and need their expertise.

Sameo, sameo.

Bush made the mistake of leaving them in because the MSM were pounding him
about jobs, specifically those poor people in the Gov who had children.
IOW, covering for the (D)spies in the Gov who leak all the information they wanted.

The Pentagon is so full of Democrat operatives that I have no idea how it's even functioning.
They've taken it over so well that they get to parse out any and all Conservatives.

The 711s, banks, gasoline stations and other cash-rich businesses should be on guard. There are 300-600 potential robberies waiting to happen as the Democrats leave town.

Bastards deserve it, it’s hard as hell to get a job out there and one of the reasons is due to their masters’ uber leftist agenda.

Maybe if they had paid closer attention to what the public was asking for and at least tried to provide it, there would be no panic. Overreach always causes a shift in power throughout history. Remember that Republicans, put aside differences and work together to get things done that the people ask for.
